    The son of man

Hello everybody. I apologize for apparently dropping out of this discussion which I started. The forums appeared to be offline for a while and I did not receive any email notifications of new posts.

    The son of man

There are lots of Bible verses from which, collectively, the Trinity doctrine has developed. I accept that there are three persons in the Trinity -- God the Father, Jesus the son, and the Holy Spirit. What I cannot accept is that these three persons are claimed to be equal in authority and...

    The son of man

We are all children of God. I am not suggesting your posts are crap. I was just explaining the context in this particular thread. As I am new here (I joined four years ago but only recently have resumed posting), no-one is on my ignore list at this time and I have no intention of creating an...

    The son of man

Please read the thread from the beginning. Some of us are attempting to answer a question asked by the member Amergin "Show me the chapter and verse in which Jesus actually claims to be God or in any other literal way says that he IS God. I had 4 courses in College of Biblical Theology. I...

    The son of man

Do bikkies come with the cup of tea? :) I'm not sure of the relevance of your post to the topic of this thread, or to the question: Did Jesus ever say he was God?

    The son of man

You say it is metaphorical, most people say it is literal. So who should I believe? You, or the other 2 billion Christians who accept it as literal? The original question was: when did Jesus say he was God? I think the verses in John that I have referenced above do answer this satisfactorily...

    The son of man

Not good references Thomas. They clearly do not answer the question. I will see what I can find. But try this for starters: John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou...

    Life after death

To all who have contributed so far, thank you for your thoughtful and detailed response. I am so glad I asked this question because obviously there is no simple answer. But much food for further thought has been provided. I am not a traditional Christian, but that is my background. I have never...

    Life after death

Spending time with a suicidal person doesn't count. The suicidal mindset can only be understood by someone who has personally had those feelings. But apart from that, I do not wish to discuss the subject of suicide which, as I said, I gave only as an example of a person who believes in eternal...

    The son of man

I have never questioned the historicity of Jesus, but balk at the Trinity concept which I consider to be irrational and unnecessary.

Thank you Thomas for your detailed and thoughtful post. It is way past my bedtime in Sydney so I will address your post perhaps tomorrow.

    Life after death

If I do it I will do it. :( I only mentioned that to illustrate how seriously one particular Christian believes in eternal torment. I have never believed in eternal torment and wonder how a person who believes in a loving God could contemplate such a view. Aha, the Kabbala. Now we are talking...

    The son of man

This, as far as I know, was the title Jesus preferred to use to describe himself. I am not sure that he ever called himself the messiah. What do you think Jesus meant by "son of man" as a title for himself?

    Life after death

Thank you dauer. Yes it helps to confuse me.:) I have resumed posting at this board after being banned from one Christian forum because of my heretical beliefs, and made a rapid exit from another after being called a devil and all manner of things. So I am very familiar with Christian beliefs...

    Life after death

Of course it is in the OT, where else would it be? But I was hoping someone would give me a summary, not just a few key words. As I said, I could take the easy route and use Wikipedia, but I prefer to hear from an individual. But thanks for giving some kind of answer.:) I am specifically...

    Jew and atheist?

Amica beat me in starting this thread, but you have given me an opening. I have a friend who is atheistic Jew. She is so atheistic that she doesn't understand the concept of religion at all. However her (late) husband, in order to marry her, had to convert to Judaism. They had a very happy...

That is very poetic but I have no idea what you are talking about. But perhaps you just mean it to be poetry.

    liberal quaker questions

There is quite a well known John Wayne movie: "Angel and the Bad Man" which I watched the other night and it is about Quakers. It is actually quite a good film and illustrates the practical side of the Quakers. I strongly recommend it if you can locate a copy.

Vets stand guard over Christian flag in NC town

"Holy Moly" denotes surprise but there is nothing surprising in the event you have referred to. Rather more like: ""ho, hum, so what else is new?" But I read some interesting anti-Obama stuff linked to that article for which I thank you. :)

I could do this the easy way and check Wikipedia, but I would like Jewish people to tell me the Jewish view of life after death.
