    Scientific fundamentalism

You are again off the mark Tao. I am leary of anyone who would claim any scientific data as ultimately meaning any proposition is absolutely true or untrue if the data cannot confirm that. But blind you are my friend or should I say "well filtered" from within the meme you say you do not...

    Spiritual Materialism

Netscape Search Chogyam Trungpa, (Tibetan Buddhist), originated the term spiritual materialism and his explanation about such can be found in this link. Much of Derek's postings to this thread related to Jodoshinshu and he sparked my interest in learning more about it. I went on quite a study...

    Scientific fundamentalism

indeed, you are correct Juan. Science only becomes fundamentalistic when the scientist attempts to interpret his or her data to mean more than it says and when the scientist chooses to unobjectively dismiss data which does not fit that person's deeply held belief about the nature of things.:) earl

    Mortality lightens the load

Well, I just got back from emergency angioplasty, which literally saved my life. Was worse than I thought-doctor said 1 block was so bad I probably wouldn't have lived til the originally planned date. I now stand corrected- changing my diet will be a bigger challenge for me than keeping my...

The original piece I posted by Wallace lays out what I meant by the term. But, no, many scientists do not become scientific fundamentalists.:) earl

    Tibetan Buddhism

I take it you're referencing the national drink of Tibet-yak butter tea. I can't imagine drinking that:eek:. But, then, I am a descendant of 19thCE Norwegian immigrants, the land that gave us the infamous ludefisk. I can't even stand being the same room with that.:D earl

    Tibetan Buddhism

Was just cruising the web and ran across this detailed teaching to Tibetan Buddhists by the Dalai Lama on a specific practice. Though perhaps one has to have some insider's knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism to grasp some of this, there is just so much detail there on many aspects of Tibetan Buddhist...

    Rainbow Angels

I, Brian, interesting. I dream in color but am so poor at remembering my dreams could not recall specific color sequences. Have certainly seen contemporary stories of purported angel encounters where the "beings" seemed to emanate light, including some children's tales claiming "wings" of...

Avi, the Dalai Lama has been famously quoted as saying that, if science and Buddhism conflict, Buddhism would need to examine its beliefs. He has always been a strong advocate of the 2 working together and the result has been neuroscientists researching the effect on the brain of meditative...

    Seeing spirits (non alcoholic) lol

to be more precise, I believe manifestations which do not seem to have sentience, do not seem able to truly interact with the living and seem, in essence, to be almost like film repetitively played in a particular place, (what folks often mean by "hauntings"), are of the energetic imprint...
