What does it mean to be saved?

Nearly every Christian I know proclaims salvation, but most Christians rarely offer a definition of what Christian salvation is. What 'exactly' does it mean to be saved, then? Does it mean that we are free from sin, or the wages of? Does it mean that we will live in paradise for all eternity, or is there more to it than this?
Gatekeeper, the word salvation implies "to be saved from...."
What do we need to be saved from is the next question.

Then other questions follow like:Can we save ourselves? Do we need help ? Who can help us ? What does it takes to be saved ? What should be the end result ? How long does it takes ? Does it take 2 minutes, a life time or many generations ? is the answer in the bible or somewhere else ?

For what purpose do we need to be saved ? Is it worth it ?

If I go back to the first question: What do we need to be saved from? What happened ? This may give us a clue to the next one

We only need to be saved from our ignorance.

That is why all religions talk about enlightenment.
But they have been co-opted long ago and just seek for conformity and obedience largely with just the token nod to the ideal of enlightenment for the most part.

Ok, so you are saying that salvation is to be saved from our ignorance and enlightenment is the answer to ignorance
Are you saying that enlightenment is salvation ? If so, can I ask you what you mean by enlightenment ?
