Making sense of karma.

Sometimes I get so frustrated with the "karma" line - it's like telling people we can't do anything about bad things, when humans have spent thousands of years precisely trying to overcome these.

That is right, if someone says, "it is my Karma to try help folks" that is fine. It is saying that is the right thing to do and making it ones Karma might help to center that in ones own mind.

But to blame Karma for the death of earthquake victims in Haiti or children in a natural disaster is simply irrational.

Sounds like the idea of karma, which in essence is simple physics (cause = effect), has been taken by the simple and turned into a fatalism style of idea, where bigger forces are at work and us poor people can do nothing about it, locked into our fate, because.....god wills it.
What cosmic rubbish.
If you don't like the hand dealt to you....get a new deal.
It is up to you.

If the black population of the USA had accepted their enslaved position as being their Karma, they wouldn't have sought a better deal.......but they didn't accept such BS as factual.
They fought the power.....and got a better deal.
What a great example.
Don't talk about the fate of people as being somehow locked in by some cosmic law as you are just spreading negative suggestions which damage the psyche of our species.

Racial hatred is generated by retaliating the hateful things said and done. The treatment of Black people by White people has improved due to people like Martin Luther King, who preached peaceful responses to hateful actions. This is covered in Karma, as we only improve our karma by not repeating our previous actions which have caused people to treat us badly. In other words, people are hateful towards us because we have been hateful to others in the past. To react when this happens by being hateful in return only ensures that it will happen to us again in the future. This is the same as saying 'An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.' I was wrong when I suggested that peoples karma could cause natural disasters. However, if we are to take anything positive from natural disasters like the Haiti earthquake then we could say that at least the people hurt or killed have 'burnt off' quite a lot of bad karma in one go. Hopefully then they will have a blessed rebirth as a result.
