Prayer

I have no question about the efficacy of prayer. I just argue that it matters not one whit whether you are praying to the Buddhas, to Jesus, to Sri Krishna or to your `Higher Power.' What matters is your motivation, or intention ... and to some degree, the degree to which - you are `pure of heart.' In time, I'm pretty sure this won't just be an opinion. This will be as scientifically verifiable as the law of gravity, because demonstrated - and demonstrable, in much the same way. ;)

Prayer is a symptom of something amiss in the concept of an almighty, self-sufficient creator god.

Actually "Prayer" is a "conversation" with God (checking scriptures on the definition might help...). Some do it ritualistically, some do it off the cuff, and some simply talk to God, like God is right there listening.

Self sufficiency and God is an "oxymoron" if one seriously considers the idea. I mean who is self sufficient but God?

Can anyone of us live by our selves? (completely) If you answer yes, I'd really like to meet you and have you show me how you do it...

As far as prayer being a symptom of something amiss, you got that right. When we hide from God, we are amiss, and God goes looking for us (proverbially). Me thinks it does not do us well to be making God look for us...God will find us, and we will know God found us, but we might end up with a warm butt and off to bed with no supper, just to remind us that we screwed up...

youser... the om that instituted the big bang put many laws in place....and we only understand the tip of the iceberg...but many have looked under the surface...

Rationalization. Seen too many of them, sigh.

Prayer should be a sincere attempt for the limited to become open and receptive to the limitless. In this world, few acts are done as they should be.
