Drug Dependency

Indeed I can Nick, including the punishment for the sin of deliberately harming my own body.

But my constant battle to quit continues. Ramadan is just around the corner so the plan is in place to stop then (AGAIN EEK).

It is. Makes me wonder...

1. will the craving be for nicotine in the next incarnation (this plane or another)

2. is something in your soul bringing this event to your life now as something detrimental so that you will get rid of it during this incarnation...as it is something your soul wants to release so the best way to do so is make it something abhorrent?

3. aren't the above two enough for one contemplation?

This is not a soul vs. brain. Nicotine (and all addictions) effect the astral body only. Fortunately, after we die, the astral body eventually disintegrates at the end of purgatory, and we are then able to enter heaven. (We would never be able to take things like addicitions into heaven with us.)

It can be said that the astral body is part of the soul (which it is). But it is not a part of the soul which be taken with us into heaven.

A person who dies craving nicotine will defintiely be born craving nictoine as a baby at the beginning of his/her next incarnation. (Why shouldn't they?) This will create a lot of trouble at that time.

what function does the astral body have? What is the relationship between the body, astral body and the soul? And then what you said in the end confused me, you believe in heaven and in reincarnation? It sounds as if you don't go to heaven each time you die, since the astral body (and your addiction) disintegrates before it goes to heaven, but the addiction goes follows you to the next body in your reincarnation cycle. So heaven comes in the end? Much the same returning to Brahma? Did I understand you correctly?
 
Weed isn't addictive... Must be an issue with their personality. Sure I get through over an ounce a month but that isn't to fill an addictive craving, simply I like it and have no intentions to stop. :) Maybe your 'friend' is the same and if so... Who are you to judge them, if they like to be stoned I can totally dig that. Leave them alone and focus your concerns on your own life....

Pretty much dabbled with most drugs now lol... Cigarettes the only b*stards that have hooked me.

I have no idea if it's chemically addictive or not, but I would think that you could very well be addicted to the feeling, the feeling that everything is 'fiiiiine'. Much like gaming addictions.

The astral body is the depository of all of our emotions (feelings). According to my belief system, the "soul" is composed of seven aspects, and the astral body is only one of these seven. After a person dies, the astral body is slowly discarded in a process sometimes referred to as purgatory. It is only after the astral body is purged that a person may enter heaven. This also brings up the idea of Limbo — the idea that some people, after they die, refuse to give up their astral bodies and move on into heaven. (Yes, this does happen. By the way, the Catholic Church has recently stopped teaching the idea of Limbo after having taught it for centuries. The idea of Limbo certainly makes sense to me.)
　
Heaven is a wonderful time of rest between incarnations. Nirvana is the "place we go" after we finally stop the seemingly endless cycle of incarnating-heaven-incarnating. There is no discrepancy between heaven and nirvana, the two concepts are quite different, and they compliment each other perfectly.
　
Addictions definitely follow us into succeeding incarnations. Our addictions are put into a type of ‘suspended animation’ while we are in heaven, and then ‘given back to us’ when we begin our subsequent incarnation. (It is physically impossible for us to suffer from an addiction while we are in heaven.) Karma never forgets.
　
'Returning to Brahma' is something entirely different. Even Hinduism clearly distinguishes between heaven, nirvana, and a ‘return to Brahma.’ Just take a look at the Hindu concepts of nirvana, pari-nirvana, and maha-pari-nirvana to see the differences.

You also count with the support of other believers, and religion itself as a tool of self help and personal development.

Talking of hinduism, even if you help a blind man cross the street, you get a few seconds stay in heaven (even before purging. Purged, you attain nirvana). Good and bad adds up all through the life (separately). The whole thing is action-based. :D

I would disagree that purging the astral body is the only requirement for attaining nirvana. I am surprised that Hinduism teaches such an idea.
 
Nick, we do not have an equivalent of 'auras' in hinduism. We have descriptions of sheaths (koshas) which are supposed to cover the self (atman) in reverse order like this:

5. Annamaya kosha, food-apparent-sheath, 4. Pranamaya kosha, air-apparent-sheath, 3. Manomaya kosha, mind-stuff-apparent-sheath, 2. Vijnanamaya kosha, wisdom-apparent-sheath (Vijnana), 1. Anandamaya kosha, bliss-apparent-sheath (Ananda)

One who attains the Anandmaya Kosha has reached the state of Moksha or Nirvana after transgressing the limitations of physical body, life, mind, and knowledge.
 
I battle drug dependency my entire youth... I quit using years ago though, Tis a battle but at the end of the day if someone really wants to quit I believe they can. I did. Tis takes a strong mind and effort, I wish you and your friend all the best. Good luck!
 
Lol, alcohol is the most used and abused drug in the US and THE gateway drug to harder things and addiction.

Much of the issue I believe is how we treat things like sins, verboten until 21 when we should be teaching moderation and sensible actions to youth
