Study Koran?

Can you recommend an English language "study" Koran, meaning one annotated by a group of recognized scholars / clerics? I am interested in historical as well as religious commentary, including contemporary thought.
 
I happen to like the Maulana Ali and Zohurul Hoque translations (both with commentary). Dr. Hoque should soon have a very up-to-date English commentary.
 
I have the Yusuf Ali with extensive commentaries !, it was what they recommenced at the local Mosque.

I'm not aware of any study Qurans with commentaries from a a Panel of
Scholars.

Best of luck finding one though.

I say any time you study a holy book interpret it with a divine mind. Like a beheading means to remove the carnal mind and put on a divine mind not to actually chop off someones head. God isnt bad. Hes love and divine.

Thank you for taking a step to understand the Holy Qur'an. I have two translations of the interpretation of the Holy Qur'an: one in English and one in my native language (Bosnian).

The English copy, I feel, does not do the justice. Although Yusuf Ali (the copy I have) attempted to help, I think that the Bosnian version is much clearer and closer to the Arabic Qur'an. Perhaps, it is the language barriers.

Tips:

1. Please remember that you are NOT reading the exact translation of the Arabic Qur'an. A lot of times, what may be translated in non-Arabic language may be just a way to interpret the meaning of the Arabic version. That is why Muslims say for translations: translation of the interpretation of the Holy Qur'an.
2. I strongly recommend getting a commentary on the Qur'an, so that you have a clearer understanding of context of the text you are reading.
3. Do not expect a narrative story, with a timeline flow. Qur'an talks about many things, but it is not in a narrative format. You must read it cover to cover, sometimes many times, to be able to grasp higher meaning of some of its teachings.
4. You will find some biblical stories retold from the Bible (shorter versions, usually, and some with new information not found in the Bible).
