What do you really know? Consider this very carefully before answering immediately by reacting, for no deeper insight can arise from it.

What do you really know?

Who I am and where I am bound.

The rest is to keep me from being bored along the way....

Insight Indeed ! oh navel, navel....... :p j/k

So who are you and where are you bound?

Do you really know?

If the rest is to keep you from being bored along the way, then have you come into this world to take up space and use up resources?

I encourage you and others to try the following twice a day for a week:
  1. Go into a quiet room and sit comfortably.
  2. Ask the question sincerely: “What do I really know?”
  3. Then breathe in through your nose and out through your almost closed mouth for a couple of minutes, taking at least 15 seconds for each breath.
  4. Enter quietude for 15 minutes. Don't ask any questions or try to answer any questions. Enter stillness.
When you have tried this for 15 minutes, twice a day for a week, then return to the forum and answer the question again.

What do you really know?

I know that I am. I know that I have consciousness and self-awareness. I know that I can think. I know that I can believe, not believe, or deny.

I believe in current scientific evidence:

1. We are all made of energy and matter.
2. Our atoms constructed in the cores of Supermassive stars.
3. Creation occurred about 13.7 Billion years ago in a manner I do not know.
4. Earth is at least 4.5 billion years old, but that it could be older.
5. Humans evolved along with other apes over the last 13 million years.
6. Human divergence from other apes was not a sudden change.
7. Human divergence from bipedal hominids was not a sudden change.
8. Modern humans have been on Earth at least 200,000 years or more.
9. Consciousness and thought are entirely brain circuit generated.
10. Crustal Tectonic Plates moving and carrying continents.
11. Dark Matter in the Universe pulling galaxies together.
12. Dark Energy pushes galaxies apart.
13. The Higgs Bosons and Hadrons (baryons and mesons).

I do not believe in invisible unproven evidence lacking beings.

1. Gods of recorded history not supported by any evidence.
2. Angels, Demons, Goblins, Leprechauns, Ogres, Werewolves, Vampires.
3. Zombies, such as Jesus, Mithra, Elvis, and Osiris.
4. Cthulhu, Yog Sothoth, Nyarlathotep, Hastur the Unspeakable.

I doubt beings claimed but unproven.

1. Bigfoot
2. Loch Ness Monster
3. Chupacabras
4. Abominable Snowman and Abdominal Snowman.

Are you certain you are aware of your Self?

One of the meanings of consciousness, according to the Webster’s New World College dictionary, is the totality of one’s thoughts, feelings, and impressions. Are you certain you are aware of the totality of such? What constitutes the basis of your understanding of yourself and your world?

You listed a few items stating that you believe so and so, you do not believe so and so, and you doubt so and so. Please note that I asked you “What do you really know?” I did not ask you “What do you really believe, or don’t believe, or doubt?” Beliefs are established on what is wished for, not on what is actually occurring and not on what is genuine.

One week didn’t pass since I posted a response requesting people to keep their minds still after earnestly asking the question for a week, and then return to answer the question. So, I presume you didn’t try the practice I asked you to.

If that practice seems too difficult, try asking the question “What do I really know?” and consider very seriously about your response and about the meaning of the question. Distinguish the question from what you think, what you hope for, what you want for yourself or for your world, what you are afraid of, what you believe in, what you cherish, and what you value. Examine whether whatever answers you come up with represents your beliefs or assumptions or the beliefs or assumptions of other people or perhaps even of humanity at large. I encourage you to try this practice for 10 minutes three times a day for several days. Then return to the thread and try answering the question again.

I know that for culinary etiquette brown snow is frowned upon more so than yellow snow in the matter of consumption.

Pseudonymous, Seattlegal, and Etu Malku,

Why don't you guys try the practice I've asked you to try first? Then return to the thread and try answering the question again.

LOL, I'm 51 . . . I've answered this question 30 years ago and I am certain I know Nothing. ;)

But, here's a little insight into your own gnosis concerning what "you" believe you know.
You immediately assumed that all of us haven't already asked ourselves this question, that we don't have our own answer as it pertains to us individually.

Now . . . what exactly is it that "YOU" know?

Please note, there is no "practice" identified herein. "What do I really know?" Intellectually (probably how you intend this) few laws of deductive reason, a few obstensive definitions, mathematics up to and including arithmatic. Everything else is probable or possible or potential.

Experiencially or experimentally, I know I "meet with the D!vine" (kinda talk to G!d).
And I meet with other life-forms in a similar manner.

And please remember that information obtained under duress isn't always reliable. :) Four breaths per minute might not be the correct speed for everyone, and three times a day (or even twice a day, like you said the first time) might be a bit much.

Been there, done that, bought the tee shirt, and wore it out.

I know I do not need saving, and what I know or do not know is my own business. That said, or typed rather, I know I enjoy Reese's peanut butter cups more than Eastern philosophy.

Would you say that Reese's peanut butter cups 3 times a day, every day, might be a bit much? :p

How would you feel about reese's peanut butter cups after mindfully eating them 3 times a day, every day, for more than 10 days straight?

One should spread out the Reese's joy by incorporating Reeses Pieces, and my personal favorite alternative - Reeses Peanut Butter ice cream bars (one can buy these in bulk from Sam's Club here in the States)...any other versions of Reeses peanut butter candy is fine, too. One's body must die sooner or later...sooner by Reeses is not a bad thing.

I find it difficult to be mindful when the sugar bliss hits...less thinking, more indulging has always worked for me...no such thing as too much Reeses unless of course you believe you are your body...then you have my sympathies.

I asked the question "What is the essence of all religions?" in another thread in the hopes that people of different faith traditions would, through thought-provoking discussion, come to the conclusion that God initiated all religions, though all religions have become altered by people. However, the thread was turned into a battleground and a joke. I see that this thread, too, is being turned into foolishness.

I asked a very important question “What do you really know?” It is more important than you perhaps realize at the outset. I did not ask this out of arrogance or inquisitiveness. I asked because we live at a time when we need to observe the world with greater sobriety and greater objectivity than ever before, so that we may take actions to serve the world for good. What sort of world we leave to our future generations depend on what we see, know, and act accordingly now. Hence, it is crucial that we are able to distinguish what we know from what we believe, what we think we know, what we hope for, what we prefer, what we fear, or what we value.

So I sincerely ask that you earnestly ask the question to yourself for a few days before responding. I cordially ask that those who would like to use the thread to fool around start their own threads. I assure you, this is not the time to fool around or joke around.
