Boston Bombers Muslim??

Hi guys, indeed it has been a while ...a very long while.

Nick th Prophet (pbuh) returned from a battle and said "This day we have returned from the minor jihad to the major jihad,".

Jihad literally means struggle or strive. There are many types of jihad, so it can mean an internal struggle to control your sins, the struggle to teach about Islam, military defence, etc. As you see from the above quote, military action is considered the minor struggle compared to the struggle to control your sins.

Of course the islamaphobes translate is as holy war ... which is pish!!!!

Oh and when in terms of military action it's not any old "jihadist" that can sanction this, it must be "declared by a proper authority, advised by scholars, who say the religion and people are under threat and violence is imperative to defend them."

--> Such "violence" could be a "large action" or "small action". Such a "large action" sounds like a war to me. I do not see much difference between "large military action" and "war". I think that, even "minor struggle" (as you have defined it) could include "war".
 
Hello MW. Once Kao started stating his sources, like Pipes, it was rather obvious where he was coming from.

A big part of the problem, from my point of view, is that too many groups, religious and otherwise, keep to those who they are comfortable with. The best method I have found to reduce prejudice, proven over and over again, is to have individuals of one group actually get to know other individuals from a different group on a personal level.

Individuals may hate groups, but most of the time when they get to become friends with a person from another group the prejudice vanishes.
 
Nick, jihad does of course include war. All people's will go to war to defend themselves, Muslims are no exception. Islam does not permit aggressive war, only defensive and we can only fight those physically fighting us, until they stop and then we are obliged to make peace with them. My point was that jihad does not mean holy war, as such people always wrongly assert, it means anything by which we struggle.

I could not agree with you more on how to reduce prejudice. It is sad that people prefer to tell others what they believe because their group says so, when all it takes is a mind open enough to ask and discuss. Doesn't mean you have agree but it can lead to empathy.
 
MW, correct me if I'm wrong but, since the Boston Marathon bombers did a "first strike" (claiming it was in retaliation for all of the civilian casualties by the drone strikes or something,) they basically committed a haram (is that the correct term for what Jewish people would call a major sin?) I mean, something in the realm of what the "Religious Police" committed in Saudi Arabia (I seem to recall) when they caused several young girls to perish in a fire because the girls couldn't cover themselves up appropriately before escaping to safety and preventing firefighters and the girls' male relatives from rescuing them, too.
