Another Media "Star" Passed

Peter Fonda passed away from complications of lung cancer at the tender age of 79.

"Who?" you ask?

He was the son of Henry Fonda, the younger brother of Jane Fonda and the father of Brigit Fonda, plus he cowrote/coproduced a little-known counterculture film, Easy Rider (which earned him his first Oscar.)

Jack Whitaker passed away at the tender age of 95.

"Who?" you ask?

He was one of the longest-running sports commentators in the history of broadcasting, starting off with CBS in the late 1950s. A couple of notable events that he covered were the first Super Bowl for CBS and Secretariat's Triple Crown race in 1973. He then moved to ABC after 22 years with CBS, calling the Summer and Winter Olympics in 1984 and the Winter Olympics in 1988.

He's also in the Sportscasters Hall of Fame (inducted in 1997) and the Sports Broadcasters Hall of Fame (inducted the same year as he received a Lifetime Achievement Award [2012].)

Barry Bennett passed away at the tender age of 63 along with his wife, and the police are looking for his son.

"Who's Barry Bennett?" you ask?

He was a well-known and respected American football player, having played with the NY Giants.

Jessi Combs passed away from a jet car crash at the tender age of 36.

She was involved both in front of and behind the camera on such shows as Mythbusters and Jay Leno's Garage. Her husband is planning to set up a foundation to help other prospective female scientists to follow their dreams.

Edward Joseph Mahoney passed away from cancer at the tender age of 70.

Eddie Money, one of the more notable rock stars of the 1980s, succumbed to esophageal cancer. He was known for such "hits" as Take Me Home Tonight, Two Tickets to Paradise and Baby, Hold On as well as others. Richard Theodore Otcasek passed away at the tender age of either 70 or 75.

Ric Ocasek, lead singer and rhythm guitarist for some unknown band named The Cars, passed away yesterday from (as yet) unknown causes. He's jamming with his friend, Benjamin Orr in Rock and Roll Heaven iykwim.

Robert Hunter passed away at the tender age of 78.

You might be more familiar with an old friend of his as well as the band they worked together with - Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead. Carol Diann (or Diahann) Johnson passed away at the tender age of 84 after a long bout with cancer.
