I realize I should have done this awhile ago, but a little bit about myself. I'm from the greater Chicagoland area in the US and was raised Catholic, although I wandered away from that while I was at university. As a kid I was a huge fan of The Simpsons television show which was how I was exposed initially to a variety of religious beliefs outside of Catholicism. Although I enjoyed my religion classes at university, and digging into all the stuff The Simpsons got right and wrong, I went down the business path and worked in finance after I finished college.

Only took a few years before I realized I was unhappy in the business world and went back to get certified to teach high school social studies (history, geography, government, religion, etc). For the last two years I've been teaching at a rural high school in western Indiana. Most of my coworkers are born again Christians who have little patience for open discussions of anything religious that doesn't conform to their beliefs, so I'm happy to be part of this online community where such dialogue is encouraged.

My other interests include travel, basketball, and working with abused cats and dogs.
 
Thanks fror the intro Steve, do you expect any changes to the forum?
 
Having interacted with people this week, and spoken with iBrian over the last few months, I have no plans to change the forum. Everything seems to be working well. However, I'm willing to listen to the regular contributors if they have suggestions of changes they'd like to see happen.
 
I don't know you from a hole in the ground, but you see a very sensible person, and excellent administrator. Thank you.
 
I really enjoy the Halloween specials and on top of those I like the one with the Monorail, Last Exit to Springfield (when Homer leads the union against Mr. Burns), and Homer at the Bat (when Homer is on the softball team of superstar baseball players). I haven't watched the series in years, but I've heard the quality has really declined.
 
I originally signed on in 2008. I'm hardly a founding member. I'm a noob relatively speaking.

I think that forums are great. Probably they are going to change a lot if holo-vision lenses ever work as well as people would like. The API's will probably all change. It will be a big pain for administrators, but hopefully all the content will still be applicable. We'll see. I imagine that at first forums will be slow to benefit, but as HTML5 controls begin to take advantage of new depths of field, sites will start to take advantage as well. I wonder which forum software company would do the best job of taking advantage of that? Its impossible to tell as I think something like that is probably 5 years away.

Won't that be interesting? Then I will have been a member for....12 years, theoretically.
 
Too Cool.... I am appreciative of this site.... it is entertaining, enlightening, cathartic, a home away from home... I have friends and associates that I enjoy the tet-a-tet with... while i believe it needs a little reigning in... troll acceptance appears to be part of the game...

While I'd enjoy a slight increase in activity and discussion.... there is a community aspect that I would not want to lose.

Do you have any thoughts on how we might achieve that? I'm working on the troll problems and I'm sorry that a few lingered during the transition. I've only been here a little bit, but I see the community aspect you're talking about, Wil. Much nicer than other forums I've been on.

I'm hoping it increases in a grassroots/amway atmosphere.... we slowly tell friends who we think would be beneficial to the discussion and the site would be beneficial to them....and they visit and come aboard. If we each tell three...and they tell three...
 
Please excuse the trail of :kitty:hair/litter, but I had to do "box duty" here (virtual :kitty's like their boxes clean, especially some of the divas. :rolleyes:)

As you probably can guess, I'm the "crazy :kitty: lady of the site from a bit north of you (if you're still in the Chicago area) and I'm also one of the "older" members (my Introduction post is way towards the "back" of the board with several posters who have moved on one way or another.)

Concerning trolls: I have found that they frequently will post several innocuous posts/threads before revealing themselves then it's the proverbial tangled web.

Yeah, that's what I've come to notice. Does make it a bit more difficult to sift them out before they spread their intolerance.

Sometimes it isn't intolerance they spread. One former member that was banned posted (questionable) photos, then brought out her sock puppet. :rolleyes:

The clowder is ecstatic that they can remain in their territory. :cool: They're currently curled up after enduring a thoroughly soaking rain (and a cold rain to boot.)

Yes, by several years. It was early on in my stint as the moderator of the Introductions board, so I guesstimate at least five years ago.
