New neighbors moved in. Muslim family, two kids. She wears a niqab, so it is quite obvious to everyone.

Not an issue to me... But they moved in on Sunday and on Tuesday we get a New Testament reader...a book...laying on the windshield of our car...

I've had plenty of Muslim friends before. But never actually discussed how much they've been approached by proselytizers.

I've had the normal "why would someone leave Christianity for something so much more complicated?" by family/friends, but I usually miss the gung ho evangelicals because I'm white skinned and my wife doesn't wear a headscarf except to Mosque and when praying.

I had Mormons and Jehova Witnesses approach me many times. They seem nice people, polite. Me being me, I am always happy to discuss religion as that is a subject I absolutely love. To cut to the chase I just tell them that I respect their views, that I do not believe in Trinity and do not believe Jesus to be divine. However, I tell them, should they still want to talk I am more than happy to discuss religion. Usually they decide to leave me after my anti-trinity statement.

They believe Jesus divine, no? Maybe that is what makes them leave me be. Regardless, whether Mormons, JW or someone else, we appear to part ways in a peaceful manner :) I think that people mean well. Their approaching strangers to talk about their understanding of God tells me that they mean me well in accordance to their faith. I respect that.

I am more offended by people who pretend to understand my faith, they use certain vocabulary to approach me, only to then attempt to tell me that all my religion teaches is fake. Surprisingly, it is not American Christians who have done this but rather a person from Croatia (which was a former Yugoslav republic). She was born and raised Catholic, then decided to go something else. Her argument was that she left her faith because of the pedophile priests. I am thinking: really, so you base your faith on the actions of some and do not judge the people in accordance to the faith they claim they follow. She came to my door one day during Ramadan. The audacity of such move and what an insult. I am usually polite and would let people in my home no matter if they come in peace. But I let her stand at the door, even though it was windy and cold, and told her that I am not ready for her visit, that she should call in advance next time. She never came back :)

They believe Jesus divine, no?
As I understand it Jesus is the first 'spirit creature' Yehova created, and is also the Archangel Michael. So perhaps yes and no?

I've been meeting a couple from Jehova's Witnesses regularly for two years I think. I don't share their faith at all and part of why I want to meet with them is how different their way of thinking is from mine. And though I don't feel I can comment on the organisation as a whole, I too feel that this couple mean only well.

Did you originally meet them when they approached you and tried to tell you about their faith or has this developed out of a prior friendship that now encompasses religious dialogue?

I am a Christian Lay Minister, and have many friends of many different beliefs. I consider myself an Interfaith Minister for what that's worth. I have had dialog with many different Faiths. I think the only really uncomfortable situation that routinely pops up in conversation is Radicalization. I think there is a good deal not on purpose ignorance on this topic. Every religion has a radical faction of some kind. Take Buddhism for example. What we mostly see is those monks dressed in orange robes who would cause no harm because they believe in pacifism. Yet we then see if we look those in Burma who are fierce warriors and will fight to the death. The list goes on...

Is it an insult to visit during Ramadan?? Or was it an insult because she came to proselytize/berate?
I can't say for sure but the wording Amica chose seems to suggest that the person came belittling and arguing against the tenants of Islam during the holy month, with no instigation. These situations happen, especially given the amount of misinformation out there. If someone genuinely wants information on these topics, and calmly asks about them, usually all parties go home feeling better. When someone attacks both the follower and the religion with mocking and aggressive speech/actions, it tends to get heated. And no matter how much you put effort into disproving with any amount of evidence the aggressor will usually just continue their tirade. Now that... I have witnesses numerous times.

I was on a plane once and a man was talking to me (I'm usually a private person) about things he dislikes, and his religious views. He said he never gives to charity, to which I found strange Given this man had been talking for 15 minutes non-stop about being a good Christian man. So I said My religion is Islam, and we have both required charity and optional charity, and from my past I don't see why any Christian would be happy to give charity. His response (in a way that indicated he didn't expect me to know about the story) "If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". I went on to explain how I think he misinterpreted the line and he mostly agreed (though I doubt I changed his life). Which is fine. He went on to ask some questions that he had on Islam (the regular: 72 virgins, Jesus not a savior, and killing the non-believers) and I felt when I landed he understood more, and definitely felt much less hatred than when he got on.

On the other hand A man like my father's cousin seems to have found a great need to attempt the yell about how horrible Islam is to the world on my FB wall. Time and time again, he asks 20 questions he copy and pastes from hate sites, then when I answer them he says I'm lying because that is encouraged... I ask him where is it encouraged... he quotes a site that has no references and no affiliation to anything Islamic, but rather an anti-Islam site dedicated to proving that the Government did do 9/11, but they had Muslims launching the missiles... after about a month of back and forth I haven't been able to contact him for about a year now. These are the types that make understanding impossible, and If I read Amica correctly, the type of person the Croatian Woman was.

I found them where you usually do, knocking at my door.

Is your religion really Islam? If so I have a question I would like to ask you.

The church I attend regularly is Unity...but anytime I take the beliefnet quiz I get high percentages on Unitarian Universalist, Liberal Quaker, Taoism, Buddhism... The bible is my main spiritual resource, but I am quite interfaith...enjoy the heck out of dancing with the Sufis for universal peace..

This is the thread wil was referring to. It was mainly created to discuss those horrible assumptions and misrepresentations presented all over the web from various sites. I welcome all questions on that thread regardless of rudeness, I just ask that you accept our answers as our view and not call us liars about it, as it tends to happen on most media other than this forum.

If you want more of a discussion than an answer, then feel free to post a new topic if you wish. There are a few of us here that can attempt to answer your questions.

Would you say possibly Agnostic Christian or Atheist Christian accurately describe you? I was just wondering this the other day. I know you don't really associate yourself with mainline Christianity.

Wouldn't universal peace be nice. It won't happen of course until the return of Jesus (PBUH) and his slaying of the "antichrist" though. Or so is our belief.

I've been calling myself a nontheistic Christian panentheist...whether that is accurate...who knows. I don't believe in the G!d of the literalist. Any old white dude in the sky keeping lists of naughty and nice... I don't believe in an anthropomorphic being, or any being, I believe in G!d as principle, as law, as the theory of everything, in everything and everything being an outward manifestation as G!d. Mainline Christianity, no I don't. Unity by most is considered liberal fringe Christianity...

but wow...

this I was not aware. How is Jesus to 'come back'? Why would a prophet come back? If Mohamed was the final prophet, what will Jesus be when he comes back? soooo many questions... in your answers please point to the Quranic verses for me to read as well...thanx!

First of all Joe, calling someone a liar is something I am not akin to. Also I would not ask a question of which I have the knowledge to assume someone is a liar. I try very hard not to be rude, unless I am insulted or my beliefs straight forwardly attacked, for I prefer discussion over argument. One tends to learn more readily from soft talk than a loud scream. As I think this question does indeed fall into the discussion here I will ask it here if you don't mind.

I have see and heard many discussions on the topic of the Taliban and Isis over the past few months, and a few revolved around the faith base of these terror based organizations. Many Christians and Muslims alike are saying that members of these groups are not Muslim, they are cultists. I personally believe them to be Radical Muslims who wish to return Islam to to a time very long ago and keep as much modernization away from their corner of the world as possible. The rub here is, that they are willing to use what ever force is necessary to accomplish this. Now add the western world into the mix and BIG BANG.....
