How Religion Leads To Mental Health Problems (VIDEO)

Wrong section for this post... We will ask the moderators to make it to a forum where it can be discussed....which would one would be appropriate for your video on this interfaith site?

I see you did not comment, what are your thoughts on it? And why do you think they used a computerized voice?

Do you think this for all religions and all religionists?

Are their a disproportionate number of religionists in mental institutions, under mental care, taking drugs for this problem?

I agree. As a new member, you need to provide context for this video and what you hope it can help us learn/discuss about interfaith issues.

Sorry about that. I made this video and I used a computerized voice because my english is bad and I dont have good microphone. I wanted to bring awareness to people how religion can be really dangerous for mental health. I was going through a lot of suffering on my own because of Religion and I really wanted to make video about that. Hope you understand. Wish you all the best!

So this video is about the suffering you yourself have gone through because of the terrible experiences you have had by a religious influence. I do not disagree with you that all of the negatives you mentioned can happen in a religious context. It is important to point out that all those negatives can be experienced by people through entirely different means other than religion.

My point is that the negative experiences are a consequence of the immoral way you were treated. It is the immoral attitude that is at fault here; religion being the justification to lay all that negativity on you. Consider this though. It is possible you could have had all the same negative emotions without religion being involved at all.

Where I believe you have gone astray is taking your experience and damning all people who are religious as if all religious treatment is the same as the treatment you received. That is not the case. There are many people who have enriching, fulfilling lives through their religion. Religion done morally can be a force for good.

Coming from a place of hurt, anger & bitterness, I do understand how you feel. And rightly so! Try, if you can, to see the bigger picture. Not all religion is as you experienced it.

And for yourself personally, I hope you can grow beyond the negativity that permeates your life right now. There is no justification for what was done to you. Maintaining a rage against it within yourself is harming you more than what was done to you. Let go of all that negativity within, and you can rise above it for a happier, healthier future.

Indeed, I consider it a fact that a belief in God plays a role in some people's psychopathology. The conclusion is that a belief in God is not any sort of panacea for world problems nor is it universally a good thing for all people. But then, not believing in God isn't a solution for world problems either. People need to find what works for them.

My point is that he used his religion as a way to justify destroying his family, which is the point of this thread.

We can make these two points:

He used his religion to destroy his family.
He used his religion to justify destroying his family.
