Does anyone know an effective remedy for snoring? I love my wife dearly. All 5ft, 130lbs of her, but that fog horn of hers could guide ships into the harbor on the opposite coast! We've tried pills, nasal strips, different pillows, humidifiers, all with no luck. Doc just shrugs. Any suggestions?

Had an ex who snored. Started drinking ginger tea with cinnamon an hour before bed and she stopped snoring within the week. Something about it clearing and expanding her airways.

Pester her PCP to have her undergo a sleep study. It may find out what's going on and how to remedy it, especially if there might be undiagnosed sleep apnea or some other medical condition.

Thanks Steve. You know, she's Indian so drinking ginger tea use to be common place at our house. We stopped for some reason. I can't remember if that's when all this started or not. Hmmmm.....

Like I was telling Wil, our doc seems to think that is contraindicated in her case. He says it's probably just a combination of working long hours and not getting enough sleep. Tough to get around that though since she runs a 24 hour store.

A rl friend had problems with snoring before each of her four strokes.

Hopefully it isn't that severe in your wife's case, but one never knows what hides behind snoring...

She is doing her best to encourage a sleep study test. They have them where you can wear a monitor, and not have to goto a sleep lab now.

Well that's encouraging...:(

I apologize for depressing you, but I was trying to encourage the study. Usually, they don't find anything so drastic (heck, one deejay/comedian/musician here in Milwaukee had a sleep study done and found out that he suffers from mild sleep apnea; he's being treated for it.)

Oh, there's a clowder of :kitty:s waiting for you, too.

No need. I know you're only trying to help and your concern is greatly appreciated. Actually our Doc does sleep studies at his office. So I have no reason to doubt him when he says it's unnecessary. I will mention it to him again though. I bugged him for an MRI and CT-scan for myself once, even though he promised it likely wouldn't tell us anything new. He finally gave in and ordered it. You guessed it. Negative, just like he said.

My kingdom for a kitty with a medical degree!!!:D

That's what I tell my students every day, but they don't seem to believe me...now I have external validation :)
Hold on there. Don't count your students out yet. Perhaps my praise was a bit premature. Prior to the calm nights my wife finally took some time off work and got a good days rest and a good nights sleep. She slept well the following night as well. Now she's gone back to her usual routine of putting in a 12 to 15 hour work day and getting only 4 to 5 hours sleep. You guessed it. The ships needed to be guided into the harbor again last night. Guess the Doc was right all along.

I guess that you need :kitty:s that are able to take over some of your wife's duties at her job as well as another one with a legitimate MD.

Too bad that she doesn't have enough decent backup so she can get a full night's sleep more often (it will avoid several chronic diseases in the long run, too!)

I like the idea of drinking ginger tea with cinnamon. I will try this. Thanks

My husband used to snore. Because of his snoring, I won't get a good sleep. We tried many ways but was not successful. So we tested for sleep apnea and he underwent the treatment from a dental care clinic in Barrie.
My son is 8 years old and he too has the habit of snoring. I think he is too young to undergo the sleep apnea treatment so I'm going to try ginger tea with cinnamon. Thanks for the tips Steve. :)

Also, perhaps you should really put some thought into the weight loss for example planning more healthy meals and exercising.

Not drinking to much (which results in dehydration) can help reduce snoring
