Sister Sinead

It almost fills me with a sort of indignation. Like "How dare you worship while you don't know or what you don't know or while in doubt?". I like anything that keeps people from crimes, indecency, intoxicants or drug use, so there are pragmatic societal benefits to taming populations morally and legally via their religious obligations, pressures, or even certain beneficial superstitions, but I don't think a person who worships God without acknowledging the present and apparent acts and works of God is the same as one who does, or takes the same out of the practice.

I think this problem disappears once you have a better understanding of the Quranic expectations on Muslims and Mumins.

I hope so, my Allah bless her anyway.

Still, I wonder what people like her actually read and study before deciding to convert/revert, because for me it required pushing through many levels of disinfo and really trying to familiarize myself with the essence of each school of thought - finding the Sunni school to be....umm....a mental mouse trap. This also included going between different ahadith collections and trying to work out what the actual spiritual legacy for each school was. For a westerner, it's no easy task either. Choosing Imam Ali over Abu Bakr makes far more sense to me.

Anyway, if she's genuine at least, then that's a good start.

I don't understand how this turned into politics of the early caliphate and bashing of the orthodox faith.

As for Sinead, since her conversion she has made racial slurs against people of white colour and other extreme comments. I distance my beliefs from hers - l don't think l am making an ad hominem in saying that.

That's what I was trying to ask initially, why choose a sect at all? Not why did you choose Shia over Sunni. :)

Personally I think most if not all of the problems of Islam come from extra-Kuranic sources.

Sorry but l don't see how your Quranist sectarianism comes into this topic?
If you want to make a separate thread upholding Quranism l'd love to answer.
