Corona virus vs religious tradition..

That was said as a sarcasm. April 15, we will have a gathering of more than one million people at a religious place. We are not careful enough. Yes, we do not have it at the moment in endemic proportions but the count is rising. If it blows up, we do not have the wherewithall to fight it like China has done it. Yeah, Delhi has limited gatherings to 50, but does any one care? We have a protest going on in Delhi for the last four months.

The statistics are absolutely correct. 117 +/- 2 cases and 2 deaths (elderly people, a woman in Delhi who got it from her son who had been to Italy). Very active media, we get news by the hour. If there are more cases, they are causing damage and not yet in the government drag-net. That is the problem. People here try to escape quarantine.

125 confirmed cases, 3 deaths. The new death in Maharashtra (Mumbai region has most cases, Kerala second).

By the evening:
Now 137, Indians 113, Foreigners 24, 3 deaths (all over 65).
It seems there are more than 200 Indians in Iran (Pilgrims) with confirmed Corona infection.
If they are brought to India, they will be in rehab institutions.
Many major temples have been closed for worshipers and so are all tourist locations including Taj, Red Fort and Qutub, popular wild-life sanctuaries.
Serious lock-down. My son asked to work from home.
Latest 154.

Proud to protect Mumbai residents (stamp on left hand):
iu

6,000 Indians in Iran (India is one of the three countries after Iran to have a large Shia population). 255 have tested positive.

Covid-19 Pandemic.
Update 19th March

Liturgical Services in this Parish

The Catholic Bishops of England and Wales have, with much regret, come to the view that Holy Mass with a congregation must be discontinued from the evening of Friday, 20th March, 2020, until further notice. We have also been told that the Divine Office (the monks’ daily prayers) must also take place behind closed doors to discourage people gathering in groups. All Catholics will find this deeply distressing news, but the Bishops are acting in the best interests of the Church and the wider population of this country.

In this parish, this means that Holy Mass will not be celebrated in St. Dunstan’s, South Brent, St. Benedict’s Buckfastleigh or Our Lady of Lourdes and St. Petrock, Ashburton, until further notice. The 1205 Mass in the Abbey church on Mondays to Saturdays is also cancelled from Saturday 21st March until further notice.

Unless they become ill, the priests at the Abbey will continue to say Mass once a day and, although these Masses may not be attended by a congregation, they will be live-streamed on the internet. It is hoped that we will also be able to live-stream some of the Community’s other prayers; although we are not numerous and these services are quite simple, we hope that in this way we will be able to show you and all who are going through such challenging times that you are in our thoughts and our prayers. If you feel able to pray along with us and for us, that will be all the better.

From Saturday 21st March, 2020, until further notice, the Abbey church will be opened at 10 a.m. from Monday to Saturday and at noon on Sundays and will be closed at 5 p.m. each day. There will be no access to the Abbey church outside of these times.

Announcement: Covid-19 Pandemic. Following the recent Government advice and given the large number of visitors to Buckfast Abbey, with much regret, we have decided that the responsible thing to do is to close the shops, exhibitions, toilets and catering facilities on the site for the foreseeable future. There will be very limited toilet facilities and an attendant will be present to sanitise.

The Abbey church, the grounds, car park and gardens remain open, but visitors enter these at their own risk and are reminded to keep “social distancing” from others. First Aid assistance is not available until further notice.

More details and links to watch our live stream follow shortly....

Buckfast Abbey glory days
25th August 2018 Anniversary of the Dedication of the Abbey Church
Catholic pomp with all the bells and whistles
Sound quality unfortunately not too wonderful

Only about six old monks left now, and services suspended ... sad and grim

China and we have the advantage of numbers. Even if a million are subtracted, that will be less than 0.01%.

Prosperity gospel millionaire Kenneth Copeland tells followers unemployed due to corona virus 'Don't you dare stop tithing'

The ongoing coronavirus outbreak is sending cascading waves of fear across the entire Prosperity Gospel movement, as the specter of unemployed followers who will not be able to sustain these Charismatic phonies in their luxury lifestyles is much too painful a prospect for them to contemplate ...

Kenneth Copeland 'curing' people of Coronavirus through their television screen..

Texas-based Millionaire Prosperity Gospel preacher Kenneth Copeland — his right hand dripping with ointment — urged believers to put their hands on their screens and be cured of the coronavirus, for which there is no known remedy. And, oh yeah, as long as you’re watching, please make a donation to Kenneth Copeland Ministries, uh-huh.

Missouri Sues Televangelist Jim Bakker For Selling Fake Coronavirus Cure

"Televangelist Jim Bakker held up a blue and silver bottle, gazing intently at the label, as he questioned the woman sitting next to him.

"This influenza that is now circling the globe," Bakker said on the Feb. 12 broadcast of The Jim Bakker Show, "you're saying that Silver Solution would be effective."

His guest, the so-called "natural health expert" Sherrill Sellman, falsely implied that the liquid would likely be effective. The coronavirus impacting more than 120,000 people worldwide does not yet have a known treatment or cure.

"Well, let's say it hasn't been tested on this strain of the coronavirus, but it has been tested on other strains of the coronavirus and has been able to eliminate it within 12 hours," Sellman said. "Totally eliminate it. Kills it. Deactivates it."

Silver Solution "has been proven by the government that it has the ability to kill every pathogen it has ever been tested on, including SARS and HIV," Sellman continued. Four 4-ounce bottles could be yours,a message on the screen said, for just $80.

Selling a fake "treatment" for the COVID-19 disease violates state and federal law. On Tuesday, the state of Missouri filed a lawsuit against Bakker and his production company to stop them from advertising or selling Silver Solution and related products as treatments for the coronavirus ..." etc ...

To what level will they not descend? Or is it the fault of their followers for believing them?

New York is on the brink of state to state quarantine

70 confirmed cases in the nearby town where I work, 10 cases in my town

India is doing relatively well in spite of hiccups. One was movement of daily wagers over huge distances (500 km) on foot since all transport has been stopped. Their going to their homes also has problems. They could carry virus to areas which are free of it at present. So, the central and state governments have asked these people to stay put wherever they are. The government will provide them place to stay and food, as also medical help wherever needed. Even the five-star hotels have been commandeered for them.

The second problem was a Muslim religious gathering - Tablighi Jamat. Read about it here:

Nine of the people who attended the majlis have died in various states of India. 24 have virus confirmed. Some 700 are in quarantine. And the state governments are tracing (some 8000) people who have returned to their homes all over India and may be spreading the virus in their communities. The preachers traveled all over India and may have spread the virus among not just the Muslims but among all sections of the society.

Amazing, the things that are happening ...

India today extended its 21-day lock-down by another 19 days (till May 3). Well, the lock-down here in village area may not be more than a farce.
Active cases: 8978, Deaths: 358, Recovery: 1205

With nothing much else to do, India's millions are watching 'Ramayana' in the morning, 'Mahabharata' in the evening and other sundries in the afternoon. :D
