W e didn't close liquor stores or cannibals dispensaries, both deemed essential...weird after a lifetime of demonizing weed in the drug war...

UK airlines shedding thousands of jobs, Virgin Atlantic pulling out of Gatwick. Some countries saying they do not expect international flights to resume until next year. Suddenly Brexit not looking like such a smart idea after all, imo ...

I wonder what the reasoning behind the ban on liquor and also tobacco sales in some countries?

The 'make Britain great again' populist ideology the current govt is wedded to has cost us with Brexit, and cost us dearly with Corona.

At the moment we have a puritan Hindu government in India. Beef, liquor and cigarettes are out and cow-piss is in. Meat prices have nearly quadrupled in lock-down times. Myself, a smoker for the last 62 years have been without cigarettes for 42 days. Liquor is selling in Delhi with 70% cess for Corona. Difficult times. Hopefully it will last only till 17th (however, one never knows).

At the moment, all shooting, all filming is prohibited because of Corona. Except for news, what we have on TV is just the repeat - which includes Ramayana and Mahabharata.
But no smoking cleared my morning cough in a week's time, miraculous indeed.

Apparently the body recovers when you give up smoking ... not entirely, by all accounts, but there is nevertheless a recovery.

We're watching another episode of the media's favourite circus, "Ooo-er, missus!"

Basically this involves a celebrity, or someone in the public eye, in a sex scandal. This allows the salacious mainstream media to have a slobber-fest, and suits the govt. as a distraction from the 'real news' of the day.

Earlier you couldn't wait to get out to smoke... you intend to allow covid to give you the impetus to quit?
Yeah, I should not go back to smoking. Even when I try hard, I cannot generate any cough. Thanks, Corona and lock-down. But once in a while is OK. No?

From my experience I only have met one person who successfully d accomplished the "I quit, just have one now and again" the rest crept back where they were. If you still have a desire you'll have a challenge to stay quit, doable but a challenge. If you can replace the hand to mouth habit and oral fjxation you increase likelihood off success. A number of folks I've seen pop low dose vitamin c, in their mouth...satisfies the reaching in the pocket, pulling out the pack, moving it to mouth, and as it dissolves provides a similar throat irritation...

Whatever you do....good luck. Hopefully you will hate the taste and smell and be done with it!!

But once in a while is OK. No?
In theory, perhaps. In practice the only thing a cigarette does is make you start looking forward to the next one, and within a week or two -- boom, hooked again. Imo. Good luck, brother ...

Well, another Corona effect: Mt. Everest visible from Singhwahini village in Bihar (188 kms as the crow flies).

NYC where covid has reigned is past its "current"peak and since they were most prevalent and shocked the rest of the country to physical distance...they are now making our overall US curve tapering when mixed with all the softened curves of other metro areas. Some states did nothing or very little, or loosened early and as are now showing new climbs spiking. Me thinks we are going to be watching this rollercoaster for the near future. The testing and tracking have taught us a lot, that being a large amount of folks in close proximity means one infected please person turns into a problem for many. Old folks homes, group houses, meat packing plants, prisons, call centers,.conference, choir practice, exercise classes are the hotbeds which spread the virus and send it home to family members.

Stay healthy gang!

Yeah, no idea where coronavirus is leading us or what future has in store for us. We cannot have lock-downs for all times. So, as people say, we will have to live with the virus. The current lock-down here ends on May 17th.
16 migrant workers walking from Aurangabad to their homes in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar (Indian states), 1600 kms. away, moved down by a goods train, as they slept on the rail track.

Total number of lab-confirmed UK cases: 211,364, with 4,649 new cases confirmed Friday.

Total number of confirmed COVID-19-associated UK deaths, according to govt statistics: 31,241
Total number of UK deaths overall, in excess of 50,000. The disparity is many deaths are recorded as pneumonia, heart-failure, etc., and Govt has stipulated that where death can be attributed to a cause other than covid, such as a pre-existing or related condition, then that, and not covid, be recorded, as a means of 'flattening the curve'.

Meanwhile in the US we have Vice Pres Mike Pence filmed at a PR opportunity delivering much-needed supplies to a hospital, but forgetting that he was still on mike when announcing that the boxes were in fact empty...

Boris Johnson promised 100,000 tests by the end of April.

Rather than offer the true data, the govt announced 122,000 tests. Subsequently it turned out a large proportion were tests 'sent out', not tests done.

Of the tests done, many were self-testing in drive-thru centres, and since testing those tested have called the helpline for their results to be told the results are 'unavailable' — in short either the tests haven't been processed, or the whole lot was just a PR stunt and was never going to be processed anyway.

If anyone is interested in just how badly this pandemic has been mismanaged by UK complacency and worse, there's a timeline here.
