Hermetic Archetypes

Have you been to the real-world Jerusalem? It's an interesting place, a strange place. I visited it once, coming from the Dead Sea, rising up into the highlands from below sea level, very symbolic ascent :) I did a tourist tour of the sacred sites, the West Wall, the Sepulchre, and the Maghreb entrance to the Haram Ash-Sharif. Ultimately, I felt relieved to leave the city. Tel Aviv was more to my tastes.

I've been planning to go with a family member of mine who is a devout Christian for some time but we just don't have the money for it. Some day, maybe. There are numerous places there that I'd like to see in person.

That's a lot of isms and schisms. Here's the problem as I see it. You've been cramming your head full of junk when all you really needed was to meet a mystery that is bigger than anything you could ever ask or think.

I'm not going to hold my breath but I suppose anything is possible. All that is needed is a little faith. Little faith, big things. Again, it's about knowing yourself to be small so the mystery might assume it's rightful position.

I don't make a habit of having faith in anything. I'm quite opposed to the concept.

So is this truth essentially neti-neti?

I did a search on wiki, perhaps I can remember a few things. So, neti-neti. A sanskrit word, I read several definitions/meanings. "Not this, not that", "Neither this nor that", but I personally like this one: "Not this, not this..." It reads like the beginning of a process of negation. You could add more to it: Not this, not this, not this, not this, and on and on until nothing is left but brahman/atman/true self. (There is some confusion between brahman and atman, so I use the designation true self.)

Understood. When realities are present, faith is no longer needed. It seems everybody's an actor on the stage of life but the reality is what happens after the show is over.

You could cheat....! You can always use google 'street-view' and virtually walk all over the place, using 360degree vision. The last place I visited after watching the film was 'The Alamo'... walked right around the whole site whilst looking in and then resorted to interior photos.

....Or wandering around the massive retail centre of Tokyo.
Please don't knock it; I've let my passport lapse in recent years so that's as close as I'm going to get to anywhere if outside the UK.

That's a thread..... it's just a question of where to place it.

Something like, 'So what do you have Faith in? Where to put your trust?'

Not having faith is a wonderful gift, because I am constantly delighted by every second, as it happens.

That's a sad point of view, I think. The reality is what happened before, what is happening now, but what might happen in future is an intangible fragment of a guess.

I remember the science fictions of fifty years ago, when heroes could beam themselves to places, or use hand held sound&vision mobiles, but the idea that mostly any kid would have a small box that could 'sound/vision' communicate, access billions of info pages, take photos or film scenes........ that was too much, even for Asimov. :)

Big tech, little people. With that kind of technology one should be able to see into a human heart? But no, I think that is still God's territory, or higher power, or whatever one can throw a conception at that is bigger than themselves. Everything that thinks it is higher power hates to find out that it is not, after all. It's a hard lesson but a necessary one I think.

Little people? I cannot see any, myself....
And everything is part of God's territory ...well it is to a Deist like me. :)

Today I specifically noticed how Wisdom and Will work well as opposite elements, with Wisdom being associated with detachment and Will being associated with engagement. It can be genuinely difficult to find the golden mean between these two virtues.
