Or have we reached the end of the road?

Things have changed in 25 yrs since the website began. The world has changed. Is IO still relevant?

Absolutely there is a need. We continue to have families with mixed faith, we have countries where the religious distribution is shifting, we have the overlap of faith, philosophy, politics, history, traditions, and psychology. We have our immediate subjective experiences, and all these different frameworks to make sense of it.

We need places to discuss and work out the tricky bits.

We also need summer vacations, it seems ;)

I don't know

We seem to avoid the bunfight zone between evangelical fundamentalists vs militant atheists. Neither camp seems to find the challenge they want here. But many of us at IO are now 'older generation' and not getting younger. I've learned such a lot here.

IO treats faith seriously, not as a place to have fun with 'believers' but am wondering if all this stuff really matters to a significant number of folks anymore -- in the 21st century quantum world

Perhaps it's time to just fold our tent?

However I understand that we do have a niche relevance, and perhaps that is our value?

Respectful, civil, informed conversation/discussion between mature members of a caring community is never passe. It may temporarily be overshadowed from time to time by more bombastic modes of communication, but it is never truly out of fashion.

I would remind you that sometimes if you close a door it turns out not so easy to reopen it.

Thank you.

I need it. You guys, this site, is one of my various sources of comfort, inspiration, discussion.

Folks flow in and out...some disappear for months or years and return...

I will gladly pay the next bill if you all will continue to do what you do...

Or have we reached the end of the road?
I hope not.
I have not posted here, or anywhere, for a while, due to health reasons. However I am a regular reader here and value the really valuable discussions without falling into flame wars(like many other sites).

It seems to me that the minds here have tamed away any aggressiveness and give stability to the forum.
I think this is what Kabir means in this poem taken from this link
Dohas of Kabir (detoxifynow.com)

Be Slow O Mind
Dheere Dheere Re Mana, Dheere Sub Kutch Hoye
Mali Seenche So Ghara, Ritu Aaye Phal Hoye

Translation
Be Slow O mind, Slowly everything happens
Gardner may water garden a hundred times, When the Season comes, there is fruit

Meaning

Kabir tells his mind to slow down, everything in life happens slowly, in its own time. The fruit only comes when the season comes, so will the fruit of life come in its own time.

The Bahai Answer Forum has 5 members and the fees are due. All we get as new members are spammers of goods and porn.

I do wonder why we keep it going, then I think, who knows who reads it and who it helps?

Same as this site, one must ask what was the purpose and are we still willing to support that purpose?

:) Regards Tony

I don't know about your Baha'i Answers forum, but I am getting a lot of positive things from this one.

Not really. The libs have it all figured out, and according to them everybody else can just go to hell.
This makes me feel sad for your outlook my brother.

If the conservatives had it all figured out would you be happier?

I would not expect you to be telling others what others think. This is unexpected.

I don't have a belief, or G!d, or prayer in the same way many do.

I find control in my perception, my understanding that my thoughts affect my life and happiness is an internal thing. Granted in the past few years that has been tough as challenges continue to test all our foundations.

Giving up is a choice....a.choice to accept the consequences of that choice.

In this moment I wish the best for all beings...

Can you provide a link?

What are our stats?

Not compared to pornhub or prankvideo sites...or even tiddlywinkntourneys...

But just numbers...clicks per day? Avg time spent by users on site. Unique clicks per day? New members last year. Number of active members per month posting vs checking in?

Again these would be of interest to me..bit would not change my opinion....we are useful imo.

Frankly if it were only five members...pick any 5 out of the top 25 members who posted any month in the past 10 years....and i would stay in that group chat and i would gladly continue to bounce thoughts, ideas, jokes around with them for the next decade.

I am gonna miss names.... but the braintrust we have here (to me) is incredible.

Thomas, RJ, NJ, SG, 123, ACOT, phyllis Rabbi, Cino, Craz, Tony, Aup, arthra, ahanu...and more.

There is no place I can go to get a plethora of valued opinions and thoughts ... I do not agree with you all on all things...but i do respect your opinions and insights. And love when you push me back on the tracks.

Then add the newbies who have come in in the past year ... asking questions, getting answers and sharing deep thought... is there anyone here who hasn't been touched by a post or sent down a rabbit hole?

And then the departed...whether from the site, or the planet old friends I have never met whose words are still in the words I find falling from my lips as my own.

This site and its discussion has had an impact on me and those who encounter me...

I thank and appreciate you all.

Thank you for that, good to see you there.

Happy to chat here though. I set up that site for the future. I see a time will come when people are wanting to know a little more.

You have a good forum here. RF forum is a challenge.

I would be interested as to how many spam members you get here. Sometimes they get to put up a couple of unwanted posts before I get to them.

Regards Tony
