"Es kann der Frömmste nicht in Frieden leben, wenn es dem bösen Nachbarn nicht gefällt." Friedrich Schiller - Wilhelm Tell

Translation:
"The most pious person cannot live in peace if the angry neighbour does not like it."

What is the benefit of liking peace?

What is the benefit of the angry neighbour?

Is it more beneficial in this world to be peaceful or to apply armed force?

Is it possible to win a war? What is the benefit?

Is it possible to win with peace? What is the benefit?

What did religious authorities (prophets, guru, wise) and great philosophers say?

How do you think and feel about it?

I suppose it depends upon WHAT you are trying to win - what you are trying to accomplish and what outcome you seek.

An angry neighbor is more a detriment than a benefit, from the point of view of their neighbor.
What is the angry neighbor angry about? What are their reasons and how good are their reasons?

Being peaceful vs applying armed force - which you might have to do if intruded on and not allowed to be peaceful?

This applies to day to day concepts of individuals wanting to be left alone but being stalked or harassed by someone, for whatever motive.

Brings to mind the concept of "peace through strength" - How strong do you have to be to be left in peace?

What is the benefit of liking peace?
You are more likely to achieve peace for your family and community.

What is the benefit of the angry neighbour?
None .. unless they have good reason for it.

..be peaceful .. salam w'alaikum :)

Is it possible to win a war? What is the benefit?
Yes, it is possible .. but it has no benefit unless it is a 'just war'.
..and therein lies the problem. Who says whether it is just?

Is it possible to win with peace?
I guess it depends on where you live.. :)

What did religious authorities (prophets, guru, wise) and great philosophers say?
Muhammad SAW, told us "Do not become angry", and repeated it many times.
Anger is from satan .. i.e. we will often do what we will regret in future
That is not to say, that controlled anger has no place in life .. but we need to beware.

If it is to be, it is up to me.

We have a choice how we respond, how we react to any given situation.

I am not the top in my class when it comes to my actions, words and behavior defusing, de-escalating situations. But the choice is always there.

"The most pious person cannot live in peace if the angry neighbour does not like it."
I'd say they can live at peace, but perhaps not in peace, as the 'angry neighbour' will, presumably, make his anger known.

What is the benefit of liking peace?
It's the ideal condition.

What is the benefit of the angry neighbour?
None.

Is it more beneficial in this world to be peaceful or to apply armed force?
Peace.

Is it possible to win a war? What is the benefit?
Yes. The cessation of a given injustice.

Is it possible to win with peace? What is the benefit?
Yes. Ditto.

What did religious authorities (prophets, guru, wise) and great philosophers say?
Peace?

How do you think and feel about it?
As an ideal ... in a far-from ideal world.

I have been a Street Pastor since 2008. When we go out, we patrol the streets of our town until three or four in the morning. Before we start our shifts, we ask God to place in our path the people he needs us to see. When we meet challenging situations, we ask God to help us with the words and actions to do his will. Once the needs of the night have been placed in God’s hands, I don’t have any worries about what we might encounter. I can only say that in seventeen years, I have always experienced a profound sense of peace, one that surpasses all my understanding.

Everyone we meet at night is first loved by God. If God loves everyone, we too should love them. This understanding helps me to search for kinder solutions to all the drunken and violent horrors; we have intervened in during the night. We listen, care and help where we can.

People might have issues with Christianity, but they consistently thank us for our volunteering and care. We have been told that we change people’s lives. We touch the hearts and minds of the people we meet.

I remember The Jesus Army in the 1970s-80s rescuing many troubled people with only using words, no rough stuff.
Unfortunately, it appears the organisation was closed down (in 2019) due to abuse-allegations against the founder and others.
