Asking about Danish newspaper cartoons of Mohammed

For once, I'm in agreement with you, Q. :p

LOL, actually, I'm a nice guy (once the aviation crew stop rigging shave cream filled balloons to explode as I open my locker...) ;)

do not have a problem with Islam. I grew up in an Islamic Neighborhood for 20 years. We never had a problem, like the problems we are seeing today. People joke about Christian God and "prophet" everyday, and we (I) do not get violent over it. Why would a Muslim feel the need to get violent over a joke?

Hi Q

I think we muslims must respect our prophet Jesus ,So I'm surprise,,, we saw many demonstrations in Islamic world and in our local area against this accident ,,no one said or wrote bad things against prophet Jesus at all

:)

The thing I don't understand is what the protesters actually want.

As I understand it, the danish newspapers responsible have all apologised and even fired the editors who made the decision to print the cartoons.

What further actions or reparations does the muslim world require?

I apologize Friend. I did not mean to imply Muslims poking fun at Jesus. In fact I agree with you that I've not seen any Muslime cartoons of Jesus. I meant other people in general that do not have any respect for anything God have made fun of or even try to remove Jesus (and God period), from the social conciousness. Still, we don't find it neccessary to get violent over it. That would do much more harm to the cause than good.

Assalamu'alaikum,
Yes we do not make fun of Jesus Christ or Isa Al-Masih a.s. because we adore and love him as he is one of the Prophets of God. That's number one. Another reason why we do not make fun of Jesus your god or any other god from any other religion is because the Qur'an forbids us to do so. Insult and ridicule made out of ignorance is not how God wants Muslims to conduct themselves.

I think a they are sick Racist.

lol, what? Why are they sick Racists? With a capital R.

Your forbidden to make fun of others gods and such? But are you forbidden for the mindless violence?

There's a discussion about the issue of the Danish newspaper cartoons of Mohammed in the politics board - but I'd like to ask for Muslim members here about the issue.

Namely, I'd like to ask:

1. How much about the story are you aware of?
2. What are your personal feelings about the Danish newpapers for printing them?
3. Do you feel the protests that resulted in the burning of Danish embassies in Syria and Beirut went too far?
4. Do you personally think that Western media makes biased decisions about what it considers Free Speech, and what it considers offensive?

Simply looking for some personal opinions on the issue.

1 Quite a lot
2 I am disgusted that some-one would deliberately offend people for no other reason than they could.
3 Yes
4 Yes, but we are all biased one way or another. Newspapers are interested in sensational news and very few are interested in balanced report.

It is an educational curve...the world did not know the Islamic prohibition against pictures. The rest of the world uses political satire and any person, place or thing can be depicted charcaturistically and chastized in one way or another. This is common. Well at least it is in the US, to do this with our gov't, politicians, and religious figures....who knew that this would cause such a ruckus??

I don't believe it was intentional...intentional satire yes, intentional to inflame, ie did they know this would be the result...no.

But as many have shown, paintings in the Muslim world have had pictures of people and of Mohammed pbuh, which were painted by Islamists and displayed for centuries. So it appears that this a change from past determinations...a stricter interpretation...but the fact is, I never, we never knew it was such a sensitive area.

Now that we do, we can act accordingly...of course generational memory being what it is, in 10 20 years this will happen again...and be purely accidental.

personally as for taking offense, i have no organised religion to be offended of, though it is important to me to lead a "religious" life. no one can make anyone else angry unless they already have anger within them looking to get directed. if anyone offends me i may not like it at first but then i realise that they have shown me that i have anger within which needs addressing, its got to make more sense than blaming some newspaper or person for my aggression and so not taking responsibility for it. you know our leaders all give us someone to point the finger at, it takes the emphasis away from them and ourselves and gives your frustrations a direction, but if i were brought up in your country and you in mine, we'd both change who we pointed our fingers at. information control is mind control, we base what we know on what we see and hear and this is controlled. we are all second hand human robots our thoughts are not our own, they want you to hate and to do so is to be their puppet, respectfully jase........

Um, yes it was intentional. And Muslims took the bait. The claim to being a "peaceful" religion and faith flew out the window with the rioting and deaths. Peace as long as it is done the Muslim way...Ironic isn't it that we conveniently forget that people died over cartoons, in the name of Muhammad. A peaceful faith...right.

At a time of increasing tensions between Islam and the west portraying the Prophet Muhammad(saw) as a suicide bomber was very very foolish.

not as foolish as using it to justify violence or hate, hate is for the leaders puppet...respectfully jase

Violence was of course uncalled for as it always it. However hatred was more justified. People disrespecting who we believe is Gods messenger provoked this hatred towards themselves. It is entirely their fault

take responsibility for your aggression, its yours it comes from you no one can force you to hate unless your willing to, violence is physical hatred it comes from the same source..wasnt it said an eye for an eye and the whole worlds blind, the buck must stop with us now or it doesn't stop at all, our leaders want us to hate... divide and conquer - dont be conquered, please...jase

lol... such a peacful and loving group ain't cha? :D

Your god teaches that hatred is acceptable? Your god teaches you that you can hate people for having their own opinion and free will? If he approves that It doesn't suprise me that he would allow people to freaking DIE over a cartoon.....

God does not teach us to hate. It is human nature to hate. The cartoons were made to provoke hatred and retalition and that is what the outcome was. Peace can only come if two parties strive for peace. Not if one humiliates and insults and the other takes it meekly. Again there was no need for deaths and violence.

Of course if you are humiliated and insulted the outcome will be hatred towards the one who insulted you. As far as an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. This is not an Islamic teaching.

Quran, 5.45, "And We prescribed to them in it that life is for life, and eye for eye, and nose for nose, and ear for ear, and tooth for tooth, and (that there is) reprisal in wounds; but he who foregoes it, it shall be an expiation for him; and whoever did not judge by what Allah revealed, those are they that are the unjust.".

It is sad that the ones whose religion was insulted are viewed as wrong and the ones who commited this act can do so under the guise of free speech

So you realise that someone was attempting to get a raise out of you? What would you say the best way to win/beat that opponent? I start calling you fatty or spotty or shorty or something... If you bite back, I have got what I wanted right? I wanted a kick out of you biting back at my insult.

To beat that person... Or to be seen as the better person, you rise above it right? Some one rips the pee out of someone and they stand there and take it... laugh at themselves and such... I'd think... Hmm big man. But if he didn't and he became violent and hateful... I would see him in worse light.
