Just lately I have returned to Bob Dylan. When young it was Blonde on Blonde and such and eventually I lost track of him. His later works, after perhaps the mid 70s were a closed book. Listening to some of his live performances I was unimpressed. But reading a few bits and pieces my interest was renewed and now I have (I think) his last five or six studio albums, plus some of the "bootlegs" released officially on about 13 volumes. Just love the stuff, the lyrics, the voice. Great favorites, "Thunder on the Mountain", "Tempest" (a 14 minute long song on the sinking of the Titanic which has a mesmerising little Irish lilt) and the various versions, out-takes of "Mississippi."
Lyrics?
"I got the pork chops, she got the pie
She ain't no angel and neither am I
Shame on your greed, shame on your wicked schemes
I'll say this, I don't give a damn about your dreams"
(From "Thunder on the Mountain")
"Davey the brothel keeper
Came out, dismissed his girls
Saw the water getting deeper
Saw the changing of his world."
and
"Jim Dandy smiled
He never learned to swim
Saw the little crippled child
And he gave his seat to him" ( in the lifeboat of course )
(From "Tempest")
But, as Bob sings elsewhere, "It's all good"
