666

Indeed... He did attempt to use scripture to his benefit...

;)

"Do not, as some ungracious pastors do, Show me the steep and thorny way to heaven, Whiles, like a puff'd and reckless libertine, Himself the primrose path of dalliance treads, And recks not his own rede."
~ William Shakespeare

Not exactly.
Although...

HONORABLE, adj. Afflicted with an impediment in one's reach. In legislative bodies, it is customary to mention all members as honorable; as, "the honorable gentleman is a scurvy cur."
The Devil’s Dictionary: Ambrose Bierce

Begin with this from Wikipedia which is an accurate summary of the position.

The Number of the Beast is a concept from the Book of Revelation of the New Testament of the Christian Bible. The Number is 666 in modern texts, although 616 and 665 appear instead in at least one ancient source.[1] Scholars contend that the number is a code for the Roman Emperor Nero,[2] a view that is supported by the Roman Catholic Church[3] [4], but is disputed by those who intepret Revelation as prophesying the "last days" of the great tribulation to come immediately before Judgement Day. ...

In Hugh Schonfeld's Authentic New Testament we find the following

Some MSS. read 666, but the more difficult number is more probable. Greek and Hebrew letters have a numerical value, and those of the Beast added together give the required total. The stamp as used in the Empire was Greek and bore either the name of the emperor with the year of his reign, or the latter followed by 'of Caesar'. The solution of the problem depends on the period at which the seer is writing, and from tradition and from the details given this appears to be the end of the reign of Domitian (assassinated in AD 96), when according to ancient tradition the Revelation was seen (Eusebius, Eccl. Hist. Bk. III. xvii-xviii). From known examples of the Imperial stamp that of AD 95-96 would probably read ID KAISAROS (14th year of Caesar's reign) which adds up to 616 (14+20+1+10+200+1+100+70+200). The addition of the letter 'N' (Nero?) would bring the total to 666. See further Sibyl. Orac. Bk. V.39-40)

I Corinthians 1 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
i would answer yes that God has made a fool of the wisdom of the this world, especially science and art. everything you have posted is man's knowledge and does not have God's Spirit. i cannot accept this because it is also written in Apocolypse:
Revelation 22 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
i fear God, man, i hope you do to. thanks for the reply though.

When you say this, do you mean that you fear God's wrath or God himself.

In the movie/book "Joshua" Joshua looks at the bible in Father Tordone's hand and says "Its a love story."

Earlier he said to Tordone after the sermon, "I have never heard it said that way."

"What way is that?" Tordone responded.

"That we should fear God more than we love him," Joshua answered.

I fear God too, but it is out of a respectful fear. I choose to love God as He loves each and every one of us, more than I fear Him. I choose this path because I believe that God would never hurt us.....unless He's really pissed off :D!

i know exactly what you mean. i don't know if you grew up with your dad but i sure as heck feared the old man. hearing his thundering steps in the house or his thunderous voice when he commanded me to do as he said. all of this was taught to me as a child. now i am teaching the same thing with my children so that one day they can know what fear is so that they can fear God. the fear i learned from my dad taught me how to fear my God. that is the problem with the world nowa days. no one fears Him. doesn't ever consider what might happen if we disobey Him. know what i mean? i love Him, He is like a Father to me, what am i saying? He is my Father!

 I'd rather my kids learn love and forgiveness from me...although I must say they've seen the wrath as well...and my apologies.

Our Jewish brethren, you know the guys that wrote the book, have said that the translation which we see as fear should either be 'awe' or 'respect'. It is their language, their texts...

so you are basing the translation of fear as awe or respect just because one jewish person tells you so?(i am not saying names) would you then also agree that if a jewish person told you the Messiah hasn't come yet? i will not listen to a jewish person who doesn't recognize Jesus as the Messiah. certainly not one who thinks that God allowed Adam to hump all the animals in the Garden to see if they are "suitable". that to me is not jewish. that is grotesque. let us just leave it at that. i don't want to further break the code of conduct, so i will just step off of this one and not say anymore.

First: I would point out that God gave us that which is between our ears as something other than a draft excluder. God intends us to use our minds to search out and understand.

Second: The warning in Rev 22 refers SPECIFICALLY to Revelation NOT to the Bible as a whole moreover the 616 idea, based on modern scholarship, adds nothing nor removes anything.

I'm only 17...but I agree. If had kids I would want them to learn the same thing in the same way.

By the way, wil...are you Jewish?

No, I follow our elder brother and wayshower... However, I explore a variety of thought. Currently when I find time I look into this religion Jesus grew up with. I attend a synagogue occasionally, and recently participated in my first seder dinner with a friends family...kids, cousins, grandparents, three generations, much fun!

I think translating the word fear into awe or respect is a healthy definition. Too often people that use the translation that is the opposite of love do not quite grasp how much God loves us.

When we "fear" God, he doesn't want you to quake in your boots. He wants your obedience, awe, and respect; the same way you want your children to treat you.

BTW: I am not Jewish.

It has been shown that a variety of names/titles can add up to 666, so the next step would seem to be, consider all the other indicators that the Scriptures mention.

Once you include the seven hills; the throne and great authority; sitting in the "temple of God" (which Paul calls the Church in Eph 2:21); “was, and is not, and yet is” (which sounds like: the "king" is dead - long live the "king"); clothed in purple and scarlet; etc etc... it starts to become more obvious.

If the Bible is meant for the common people to understand, then there is one obvious numerical alphabet: DCLXVI

in these the last days ,great understanding is coming to light regarding the book of revelation ,which after all means an uncovering or revealing. and it is being revealed to his slaves .
A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. rev 1;1 and it is all being revealed
The wild beast that you saw was, but is not, and yet is about to ascend out of the abyss, and it is to go off into destruction."—Revelation 17:8a. the understanding about just who is this wild beast is well and truely known. it was , and it was not, but now it has ascended and is here. and many are putting their trust in this thing instead of the true way to peace on the earth . the true way to peace on the earth is Gods heavenly kingdom goverment which was established in 1914 inline with bible prophecy and chronology Daniel 2;44 .and Jesus is now a reigning king of this heavenly kingdom govermentDaniel 7;13-14 that is what true christians should be looking to for peace on the earth . not manmade things .

manmade goverments sure do miss the mark of perfection , the number 7 symbolizes earthly perfection so 666 is missing the mark in a big way 3 times to make a point it seems.

it is no wonder that the most high is going to step in and put an end to it all. DANIEL 2;44 says it all really
