Astronomers have found the most Earth-like planet outside our Solar System to date, a world which could have water running on its surface.

They say the benign temperatures on the planet mean any water there could exist in liquid form, and this raises the chances it could also harbour life.

40 degrees Celsius? Oh, man! I was ready to pack my bags, pre-flight, until I realized that I already live in Texas. That's about as warm as I wanna get!

Hi,

Relax! Between 0 and 40 degrees is the estimate, and with global warming it may seem rather chilly. Bookmakers William Hill have slashed their odds of discovering life on another planet from 1000 to 1 to 100 to 1. Must be worth a flutter!

WOW! I knew we weren't alone...

Hi,

The ex Special Advisor on UFOs for the Ministry of Defence (in the UK) (didn't know they had such a thing) reckons that a "small hard core" of sightings are genuine alien craft.

...and cue the X Files music...

Earth 2. Cool. I wonder if it has oil. :p

Seriously though, the assumption that a planet needs to be Earth-like to harbor "life" has always baffled me. I mean, I understand the biological deal. But why does 'other life' have to be strictly biologically like the life on Earth? Couldn't there be some weird intelligent vapor or something somewhere? Maybe the Giant Red Spot on Jupiter is a troubled, angry collective consciousness that feeds on dust. Maybe the rings of Saturn are sentient, but don't speak, cause they are in space, and you know there's no sound in space. Except for those Star Wars lasers. Pzeww! Pew!! Kaboom.

I think it's cool that Earth 2 is in the constellation of Libra. Because that means that if there is Earth-like life on it, it's in balance. Maybe the humans there haven't gone all crazy in the name of God, Cash, and Country. :D

Whats really so fantastic about this story is that we are now able to detect such planets. I think this must be the smallest exta-solar planet to date, at about 5x Earth mass. This would mean we could probably crawl a couple of meters on its surface before being completey goofed from battling against its gravity. I vote we send all weedheads, (you know who you are!!), there first as they have most experience of being pinned to their seats :p

We have the theoretical knowledge to get a probe there with a 60 -80 year travel time. Maybe this discovery will give us the impetus and vision to try!!

Oh, come on. Everyone who posts on this site regularly has the "most experience of being pinned to their seats."

What's weed got to do with it?

I'm just sayin'.

Lmao, cant deny your right there.

As for weed..... the arguments are now well defined. I would not stop anyone if its their choice. But to say it is harmless is naive. But I dont believe in nanny-stateism, people should have the right to put themselves at risk in the pursuit of pleasure.

I hope no-one is trying to take my thread off-topic.

What does anyone think of avocado?

I love it.

Avocado, you think that you are so holy,
But you're just guacamole....

(Some people mistakenly believe that the song Desperado was composed first, but I ask you in all sincerity, which came first--the Eagle or the Avocado?)

Scientists have discovered that it was the Eagle and that over time its method of reproduction changed.:D

Context, Snoopy, it's about context! In this case, it is about a certain text meant for a certain society. Science cannot interpret the oral and literary Traditions in such a literal way. Oh, never mind-- I'm am so done with tryng to get my point across to unwilling listeners....(sigh, stomp, slam).

Context, InLove, context? I think it's more to do with what you're smoking is evidently much stronger than what I'm smoking!:p

Snoopy:

What on Earth 2 does that have to do with anything? Huh? I'm outta here. :D

Oh, I get it...NOW you want to listen! But it just doesn't work that way. Sorry, it's just "too late baby, now, it's too late..."

Bye, y'all. ;)

InLove, you always say you're out of here but then you just have to come back again don't you? No discipline that's your problem.:)

PS See you in a min. It's killing your pig already I bet.:D
