As-salamu Aleikum Wa Rahmatulhi Barakatuh!!

Wishing you all a blessed Eid and a joyfull day.

Masalam :)

I am curious: how do you celebrate this holiday?

The Eid al-adha is a festival worldwide celebraged by Muslims and Druze. It is in commemoration of Ibrahim's sacraficis of his son Ismael to Allah... As told in the Qur'an. There is prayer and then a sermon. (yes... there is an animal sacrafice...) Morning you attend the prayers, and that is followed by family/friend visits (Like christmas... Gifts/greetings are exchanged.) Then you organise where the sacrafice is to take place and this meet is eaten during the holiday..... :D It starts on the 10th day of Dhul Hijja (the 12th and final month of the year) To some it can also be known as the "bigger Eid" (there are like three Eid's btw) Eid-el-fitr (end of the month of Ramadan, which is a big Eid, however Al-Adha is considered bigger.) And there is Eid-e Norouz which is to celebrate spring.... :) Anyway, the Al-Adha can last more than a day two - four? Depends on country... It's after the annual pilgrimage to Makkah.....

Hope some of that helps? lol.... And for any errors.... Astaghfir Allah!!! I am still but an apprentice, for now. ;)

And there is Eid-e Norouz which is to celebrate spring

Norouz is not a part of Islam, its ancient Aryan tradition. Now a days its praticised by Turkic people too (who were influenced by the persian culture).

Thanks. I wondered if it was all dreary preaching, but good eats and spoiling the kids with presents is always a wonderful thing. I was in Morocco once when Ramadan was ending and saw the Eid Fitr parties, but I'd never seen the Adha.

Oh aye, it is very christmassy... lol... In spirit, togetherness family, friends and thanks and praise to Allah. It's a festival... When have you heard of a dreary festival? Of course there is some preaching as that is to gain understanding and commerate the sacrafice.

What I meant was that on the face of it, it doesn't sound like a good story for a celebration: Kids, you know of course that I would slit your throats in a heartbeat if God told me to, but the good news is, God doesn't want us to slaughter our children anymore!

It is opportunity for muslims to convergence with each other.. visiting our enates and friends
and the slaughter is symbol of sacrifice
and poor people had given their right to eat meat and cook for their children...the meat should distribute to others and part of the sacrificed animals remain to the one whom try to sacrifice ..
it is Islamic tenet behaviour ( Allah) told us to do to be collaborator society..feel with each other..help each other ..
even the haj is opportunity to practice equity and equality..all people together under the same conditions...rich and poor.. women and men.

and happy days to all here :)

What a glorious feeling!
I'm happy, again!
I'm laughing at clouds
