guilt

Why does there have to be anything wrong?

Because there is?

"But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it, you will positively die.."

A line was drawn, and the line was crossed...

Christianity, however, has a very long set of rules and guidelines, which different denominations pick and choose which ones to follow, most of which are very difficult to follow when you're battling against human nature. Most unsettlingly, the penalty for disobeying any of these number of regulations is eternal death and torture. That is, unless you follow Christianity and pray to Jesus for forgiveness and try really hard never to do it again -- but really try really hard, because He'll know if you're only trying kinda hard.

You forgot to mention with the pick and choose that they also add and make up rules :)

In your opinion the penalty is torture.... Perhaps we are misunderstanding what is meant when we read certain scriptures... Dunno... Just if YHWH is love.. It sound right that he also is one that is sadistic?

I fail to see your problem with someone asking for forgiveness?? What is wrong about realising if you have done something wrong and really wanting to change? Please explain... (Also how this connects to looking down on one's self.) But the bible to me teaches it is more important for us to... Forgive.. OTHERS, "forigve -us- our tresspasses, as we forgive those whom tresspass agaisnt -us-."

Could you please give me, from the bible... Where you get these statements.....

if you lie you just go to hell (unless you believe in Jesus, in which case you just need to ask for forgiveness and feel real bad.)

Please could you state what puts you under this impression.... Hey by the way... those are some amazing shoes you have on there.... (Oh my I can't see your shoes I lied! I must be off to "hell" now lol..)

you're battling against human nature.

could you show me reference in the bible too to this?

And this :)

this is probably the first time that I have asked a sincere question and haven't been beaten over the head with the fact that I'm going to hell for a number of reasons.

Those who condemn, condemn themsevles ;) Man is just a man he has no say on judgement of who goes in the good book and who goes in the bad book :p That is YHWH's right and authority... Anyone who says you are going to "hell" then ignore them, perhaps remind them of casting the first stone...

Luke 6:37 "Do not judge, and you will not be judged.. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven...."

You mention Karma... This sound not like Karma? YHWH does and will reward those whom do good... :)

I, myself, Arianna, I never ate from any mythical tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Some fictional character who is supposedly the mother of all people allegedly did.
In a story.

Which is made up to tell us why we live in the kind of world we live in.

You honestly think it's fair that every Christian law and rule is based on the fact that Adam and Eve (and therefore WE) were/are evil and can't be trusted? You can say that there's something wrong because of this?

Besides, whatever happened to that whole "sons shall not be punished for the sins of his father"? It seems like we're being punished big time for our forefather and -mother.

I ALWAYS thought this exact same thing. THANK YOU. My main thought was: "How could a G-d of infinite love and mercy watch his children suffer eternally?" But many people teach this. This is what I was taught.

There's nothing wrong with asking forgiveness for things that you truly feel that you have done wrong. There's nothing wrong with being humbled by that experience. But being humble isn't the same as feeling guilty. You feel guilty when you're told that things that you do, things that you don't really thing are wrong, are wrong and evil.

The church has slammed down as sins MANY things which are natural and normal for humans to feel and do. To name a few:

Masturbation
Pre-marital sex
Marital sex which includes contraceptive practices
Homosexuality
Consumption of Alcohol
Gossip
Looking at attractive men/women (because they are attractive)
Not going to church every Sunday
etc.

Could you please give me, from the bible... Where you get these statements.....

Which ones?

Well, I'm actually not wearing shoes, but my feet are pretty amazing. ;)

How about this:

Lev. 19:11 -- You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.
Deut. 5:20 -- Neither shall you bear false witness.

and

Rom. 6:23 -- ...the wages of sin is death...
Jam. 1:15 -- ...sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death

plus

Mat. 3:2 -- ...Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat. 4:7 -- From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mar. 6:12 -- And they went out, and preached that men should repent.

therefore

Rev. 20:15 -- And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Whew. So, lying is a sin -> sin is punishable by death -> the one saving grace is to repent -> but if you don't, you go to hell.

could you show me reference in the bible too to this?

Ya know, I don't have one right handy. I don't know how to biblically describe that we have natural urges that go against a lot of what the church preaches.

"The wages of sin is death." Sound familiar?

It's tough to say that if you believe it's true...
