The great beast

At last, now we are getting somewhere! Except we aren't and there isn't anything to get. ;)

What, you don't believe in the objective dharma not to mention objective wisdom that was with God at the beginning? No objective "meaning?" Well that's OK subjective meaning supplied by the dictates of the "Great Beast" will compensate.

Again you presume to know what I believe and what I don't. Is that one of your superpowers?

and so, after nine pages of quote-goblinry, windy sophistry, posturing and blowhardry, we are no closer to answering the big question:

"why does nick think that he can lecture everyone about simone weil, needleman and the beast? (a good name for an album incidentally!) OK, he admits he is in the cave himself but that may just be trying to compensate for trying to be bamboozled by an effect of the cave which makes you think that you realise that you're in the cave, when in fact you don't realise that you haven't actually realised anything at all, because the actual cave is very different from the illusion it has created for itself."

there may be no spoon - and that may actually mean that the idea of a spoon itself may not actually exist, because we are effectively prisoners inside our own consciousness because of the philosophical concept of privacy of experience, which in philosophy 101 is usually discussed, i believe, by potentially being a brain in a vat, or "BIV" as philosophy students call it.

but then again, nick, you'd know this already, wouldn't you, being such an expert in philosophy.

how do any of us know that any of the rest of us are actually really here or not? even with a webcam, you can't tell if that's really me, i'm really there, or even if i'm wearing underpants.

... and then you see that 53-page thread on obama's birth certificate. i wonder what a guy with a boredom threshold like that does for a living? i bet if you can be that single-minded you can make a ton of cash.

Why be ruled by insult? You wrote "Except we aren't and there isn't anything to get." So I reply asking a good natured question meaning if that is so and there is nothing to get, then there is no objective dharma or wisdom. Instead of considering it, you prefer being insulted. Can it really be any wonder since we are this way that as proven, we don't know how to meaningfully relate to a fourteen year old girl about sex and her body. It may be your way but I just refuse to allow myself to feel justified in this way.

All this means is that you don't understand the significance of Plato's cave, Too much time defending secular Judaism by fighting windmills. Your choice.

its like watching a dog chase its tail.........
at first its funny,,,,, but it keeps going and going and going......
then, its just SAD

Yes, this is life in Plato's cave. Everything turns in cycles. The more positive parts of the cycles gives the illusion of progress. When the cycles begin their negative stages, experts in self deception appear out of the woodwork teaching us platitudes assuring the cycles will continue with hardly a belch from the Beast.

I make people happy with my quick wit and musical ability for a living. As the saying goes: "Only the boring are bored." This is why you become bored with keeping focus. You don't experience the life in the basics.

Are you Victor Borge?

You must leave all that on the stage because I see little evidence of it in your posts.

You make people happy? REALLY?

The world is an amazing place.

nick,

as i have told you about 18 times, you don't understand the meaning of the word "secular", or the word "judaism", or the phrase "secular judaism". you repeating your own definitions don't make it so. i also don't think you know me well enough to call me boring. says it all about your insight, really.

don't you wonder why you're not convincing anyone with this simone/needleman/plato blethering? it begins to feel a little bit like the whole substance of your argument is "ah, well you're all in thrall to the beast, so naturally you disagree". well, anyone can play at that game.

What makes you think I'm insulted? Isn't that just another assumption? If you didn't understand what I said you could simply ask what I meant instead of assuming.
It could be that I very much believe in dharma and wisdom, but have a way of understanding that is different. But you wouldn't know these things because you don't simply ask.

Not quite VB. I could be Mr' Wonderful here and the epitomy of political correctness but what would be the sense of it? But with a little compassion, understanding, and consideration, necessary to uplift those who need it, you'd be surprised what's possible.

Don't blame me. Socrates said that someone becoming aware of the human condition will be scorned and possibly even killed for relating such an experience. Those like me at the beginning of this awareness of the human condition described by paul as the "wretched man" at least escape death but surely provoke righteous indignation for not glorifying the Beast.

Jesus said that the "World" meaning the Cave within which the Beast resides, will hate the message. It must since it threatens its dominance.

Nick A said:

yes, but just because someone gets scorned, it doesn't mean that they are therefore aware of the human condition. it might just be because everyone thinks they're a bit of a pap baffle. an eccles snake. a pink darth vader. in logical terms, it's called "affirming the consequent", i think.

I was visiting my grandmother at the Whispering Elms Retirement Center and was lucky to record some of Nick_A's act...

Nick_A: What a great audience! It's amazing to see so many people here, especially when you consider that to get in you needed to show your ticket and your long-form birth certificate.

*crickets*

Nick_A: What is this, an auditorium or the cave? Are you an audience or shadows?

*crickets*

Nick_A: Well I'd like to start with the title song off my new CD, "I know you stupid people better than you know yourself."

*sounds of people in slippers, walkers and wheelchairs racing desperately for the door*

If you insist on being sarcastic about my "super powers," what can it mean other then you are put off by how I responded. Why not just say something like "I don't see any contradiction between us going nowhere and the reality of objective wisdom Man has the potential to experience because............"
