We can only attribute the following remark to a lack of education. Just be happy that you know better!

“A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.” - President Teddy Roosevelt

Who could think such a thing? ;)

If he meant its allegorical understanding, then he was correct.

People create their own realities through allegory. You would think this more important then earning the requirements to get a job?? Scandelous!

How is a politician's pandering to the masses "politically incorrect" ??

I can see many ways in which he would be correct. Depending on your career choice or life choice it could easily go either way. There are many with a four year degree that isn't worth the paper it is printed on or the four years of life wasted to get it.

Define worth.

You tell me. What gives something "worth" in your life? Once having defined it for yourself, which srves more to allow you to experience it: public education or what is within the Bible?

His remark might have been "politically" correct at the time recall that Teddy was President about a hundred years ago...

Also consider his other quotes:

A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.

I am a part of everything that I have read.

It is essential that there should be organization of labor. This is an era of organization. Capital organizes and therefore labor must organize.

Certainly not me.

But then, I am an art school drop out.

Yes but in those days political correctness wasn't based on the sophistiction we have now. We have genuine experts that we put our faith in bringing new meaning to political correctness and the superiority it allows us to feel over those unaware of it or even worse, don't take it seriously and would rather look for worth in the Bible.

Thanks for all our sophistication we have now and the genuine experts to give us all that new meaning to political correctness and the superiority it allows us to feel.. oh yeh!:D

What!! You doubt this superiority? Perhaps you've been mislead by that old observtion: "A thermometer has a lot of degrees and you know what you can do with that." ;)

Well tell ya what... I don't think we should close this thread on Teddy without the following piece of info:

Theodore Roosevelt was the only U.S. President sworn in without a Bible.

Ansley Wilcox, who owned the Wilcox Mansion where Roosevelt was inaugurated, wrote: "According to my best recollection no Bible was used, but President Roosevelt was sworn in with uplifted hand." (The Presidents and Their Wives)

Franklin Pierce was the only president who affirmed the oath of office, and was not sworn in at all. (More Presidential Inauguration Trivia here: Link)

Trivia: Teddy Roosevelt Sworn In Without a Bible - Neatorama

Actually....the Teddy Bear is named after Teddy Roosevelt. While hunting in Mississippi during his presidency, a few of the men in Roosevelt's party treed a small black bear and summoned Roosevelt so that he could take the shot. Roosevelt decided that killing the young, trapped bear was not sporting, and spared it. A New York toymaker heard the story, and asked Roosevelt's permission before styling a child's stuffed toy bear as the "Teddy Bear". Roosevelt gave his permission, noting that he did not expect many sales.

If only he had bought stock in that company.

Originating from a story from one of Roosevelt's hunting expeditions, teddy bears are named after him.

Teddy is still popular it would seem...

Years ago when a mere lad I was in the Boy Scouts and went to Camp Theodore Roosevelt in Maryland.. I remember it well there was a large lodge and inside was an enormous stuffed "bull moose" which Tedy had probably made a trophy... I think that Camp was doanted by Teddy to the Scout movement.
