I had to give it up--I kept getting carpal tunnel syndrome and repetitious stress injuries from it.@ SG
Time for you to pick up that guitar again SG, start rockin'

Is it creation or masturbation?
lol
I hope that was a rhetorical question
Is it creation or masturbation?

With me, it's jazz. If it's got the creative zing, it's good, otherwise it just seems like a bunch of ****ing off!No actually! Provocative perhaps but not meant to offend.
I get the notion, I think we're talking electric heavy rock stuff...
It's a path I've gone along and probably still have an odd bit of in my music.
I used to love stuff like Satriani and Vai but now I see that technical ability is not the same as creative ability. The two may coincide but I try not to confuse them, or be blinded by finger wizardry.
Yep. I know what you mean.By way of comparison, Hendrix was a creative genius. If he played one note it would be beautiful and it would be individual. You hear one note by him and you know it's Hendrix. I'm not sure that's true of the techno-onanists.
I still enjoy rock, and it may be "heavy", but maybe not in this way...

Heh, I was going to suggest Street Spirit earlier, simply for the brilliant sound - but figured that it wasn't really a song with a guitar solo so wouldn't count. Glad to see it get mentioned, though.
Nice sound. (But the video portion ain't so hot. )I bet none of you have heard this before:
YouTube - salman ahmad- heer
The actual song starts 40 seconds... its called "Heer"
From C0de Post #22, I'd say Steve Vai's Tender Surrender qualifies as creative. Steve Vai playing Little Wing is not "original" in the sense that he didn't write the song. But his interpretation is creative. Is it creation ?
I'm no expert, but I can identify most any significant guitar player from a note or two. They all have their own style and touch.Hendrix was a creative genius. ... one note by him and you know it's Hendrix.
Nice sound. (But the video portion ain't so hot. )
Well, David Gilmour is not Hendrix either.Satriani is technically an excellent musician and sometimes I am in the mood for his music which I then thoroughly enjoy. But he is not Hendrix.
....Pink floyd has some amazing pieces which are lifelong favs. Like echoes for instance to name one(YouTube - David Gilmour in Royal Albert Hall - ECHOES Part 1)
There are 3 clips for the whole piece.
I never compared Gilmour to Hendrix.Well, David Gilmour is not Hendrix either.
Does every player have to sound like Hendrix? I like the idea of each musician adding something unique. Did you see the Santana/Pat Metheny jam? Both killer players, but it didn't work because their styles are too different.
