Ok for me but not for others.

Maybe it's something I might call the "Observer Effect." When you keep your opinions to yourself, you are surprised at how aggressive people appear. But when you start expressing your radical views, you cease to be a neutral observer and become one of those aggressive people bashing what they don't like.

You see two people arguing and they don't seem like nasty people, even though one of them complains that the other is stubborn or arrogant. But when you do get involved with the one who receives complaints, that changes your thinking entirely!

My explanation would be that you think your own criticism of religion is fair and balanced, but when someone else does it, it seems exaggerated and blown out of proportion. It's how rational you think your own criticism is.

For what it is worth (not really knowing you apart from this forum) I think you are anything but nuts.;) A bit wacky now and again:eek:, but that is fine.
It helps to relieve the tedium.

I would put your issue down to your conditioning.
Everybody is conditioned....right from conception....it is unavoidable.
And it makes for a lot of work, this unlearning crappy ideas and habits thing.
Plus sorting through all ones notions and such to see if they are actually beneficial or some kind of mental virus is a lot of exercise.
But it is part of our experience.

It could also be that you have trouble choosing things. Is the greater pleasure making havoc or is it intellectual manipulation? The cashier is waiting for you to put your money down, but its so hard for you to choose. You ask her to help you make a decision on a candy bar. She patiently looks at you and temporarily places you into either the 'Nurture' or the 'Reject' section of her brain, before she says "They're all good!"

Anyway, what have you been up to lately?

Yeah there is that.

I've watched your contemplations about religions....in sisucssion of them and in arguement as well. But other than when you first came here as a rebel you have been mostly respectful....edgy edge of respectful but there/

Of course my beliefs are somewhat edgy as well and I could be a little more tolerant.

All that being said I think what you are experiencing is the mirror. You see yourself in the actions of others and the part of them that bothers you is a part of you that bothers you....

Makes a change to speak with a level of intelligence on something lol. Thank you for your reply.. Wouldn't this make me nuts? Or an egomaniac? Or both? That sucks... I don't want to be nuts nor an egomaniac.

I've probably been nuts and an egomaniac from someone else's perspective before so I am unlikely to label you as such. Once I've been something, I'm unlikely to stigmatise people again for that same thing unless I'm trying to be friendly. When I was a kid, I thought people who played computer and video games were idiots. That was until I got my own computer and video gaming console.

In this world, in this generation, you can be anything . . . well, anything that is humanly possible. You can't be God, for example . . . depending on your definition.:D

so . . . my advice is don't stigmatise anything. (Maybe even murderers, rapists, paedophiles, bigots, domestic abusers and ethnic separatists could be accepted.) If you've been nuts and an egomaniac (which isn't nearly as bad as the above), there's a good chance that we've already been there and done that. Welcome to the club.

Seeing myself in others . . . yes, that is one thing that stops me from stigmatising others and getting extremely aggressive at them. I realise what they are thinking.

Looking for opinions....

Why would I see it ok for me to "have a go" at religion and be opposed to it, but when I see another do this... I feel so strongly the need to defend it lol!

The hell is that about?

Heh, sounds like a desire for balance. :)

I think you've got a point worth exploring. If we are to move on, grow in consciousness and quit creating them we've got to start doing things differently than we have before.

Along with that blasted mirror in this regard, there is also the concept that everyone is doing the best with the knowledge they currently have. We are all making the most intelligent thoughtful choice we can based on our knowledge and experience....well with your list as a beginning we need to explore how to change their knowledge base in order to assist folks in making different decisions?

Is it just me or does this discussion actually pertain to the thread topic and OP?

Thank you for the reply Shawn,

17: A bit wacky! lol.. Nice.

So, you think It's basically just like a confused filter system? Also the conditioning? Who is conditioning me? (Whoever it is, best be using Herbal Essence!)

It could also be that you have trouble choosing things. Is the greater pleasure making havoc or is it intellectual manipulation? Thanks for the reply Dream,

17: A bit wacky manipulative bringer of havoc. Ok the building blocks are falling into place!

lol, would you say it is the same kind of level as "snickers or twix?" I guess sure in basic essence it is something like that.. But, more so right? Also the intellectual manipulation? Are you saying that would be on my part? If so to what real benefit to myself? OR are you saying that is on the others part? If so how's that work?

Yeah there is that.

Thanks for the reply Wil,

17: A bit wacky, edgy rebellious manipulative bringer of havoc. I Think I'm happy to stick with nuts come to think of it.

Yeah, tolerance I think is something everyone could improve on... No matter who you are. I didn't even look at such a simple thing... Intolerance... Wait, intolerance to what though?

I like that mirror comment... I get imagery of the joker in that dentist chair when he asks for the mirror... Yeah I like that theory.

Heh, sounds like a desire for balance. :)

Thank you for the reply Brian.

17: A bit wacky, edgy rebellious manipulative unstable bringer of havoc. Ok for certain! I am going with nuts.

So say this was you, with obviously some strange conflict or something here... How would you look for stability/balance?

Thanks for yet another reply Salt!

17: nuts. lol.

We can be anything humanly possible? Surely not? There has to be an individual limit/ceiling to which one can aspire to?

Do not stigmatise.... Kind of back to that previous tolerance idea.. So what is it I should be looking at?

You as a child, kids with games... HAH! Idiots! Now.. Oh you got games.. My bad.

So with me... What is it I am looking to fix? I really am being serious I can't seem to see it. Would it simply be hypocritical tendency? Or is that like way too broad?

So, the ones you see "having a go" at religion, are they making the same points that you do when you "have a go", or do they come at it from other angles?

Thank you for the post Shawn,

It will sound strange. Most of them either use topics I have used maybe a few times... But it is always the "usual points" they do not tend to go into certain details and in depth as I have done.. With for example, comparisons from holy scripture to say scientific statistics and known fact.. Or even cross referencing the holy scriptures..

They simply give off the cuff opinions and attempt to make those they are speaking to as 100% fact. No references, no sources, no backing support... And it enrages me. I feel (If I am totally honest here.) That they lack intelligence lol... Perhaps In a way I feel more superior and have to put them "in place".. Not sure, it is odd, and very interested in getting opinions on it, because I have only just started to stand back a moment and think about what I am doing here, and how it defies logic. As for those whom oppose... Whichever way they "come at it" I always in aftermath, to a degree feel insulted and then stand to defend and refute all they claim LOL.

It is madness no?

Keep it up..they may storm the beaches...they may outbreed us, but we will never surrender.;)

So what is it that needs to be defended?
And why does Alex care?

Answer that, and you have your understanding :)

Thank you for the reply Paladin,

That sounds simple enough.... Although when I attempt that, it falls at the first hurdle.

I do not practice any religion. So there doesn't seem a right for me to become insulted lol and jump to the defence of a god.. I am working the clogs in the old cranium to try and figure it and wanted to come here to see if I could be inspired to chains of thought, and check others opinions. As I am genuinely intrigued, now I am aware of doing it. You know, like when all of a sudden you notice say a smudge that has been on your TV for years, never noticed... But now you have you can't stop staring at the damn thing.

Because things aren't so simple, you know it, and you don't want others to think you're that one dimensional.
