Children are impressed by flashy displays and have no patience for careful, methodical, judicious processes, no matter what the outcome or benefit of the process might be. Children demand a sky magician "god". They reject a God who is careful, methodical, and judicious.

Adults have little patience for flashy displays and take part in careful, methodical, judicious processes, because the outcome is that much better for the care, method, and judgment exercised. Adults do not trust a sky magician "god". They understand why God might want to be careful, methodical, and judicious.

This is just a quick idea, a short note jotted down. I do not pretend that it is some kind of world-changing "Truth", but it might be useful to someone.

You have identified a world changing "Truth", but the world will is not ready to accept it.

You have classified by your definition 95% of the US Christians as children. As they believe in a Sky Magician G!d.

I have also classified 95% of US inhabitants as children--just look at how the cults of the Democrats and the Republicans behave regarding their respective Anointed Ones.

How do they behave?

From what I have observed over the years the people involved in politics are decidedly not children, far from it.
It takes much longer than children have to become that stupid.
Much like the arguing and debating spirituality and religion, the politically charged idealogues pursue a circular path leading nowhere but to more argument.
Truly a "...tale told by an idiot full of sound and fury signifying nothing"

As for the "Magical Sky God" there are many in this world who are wired to think in those terms. The mythic/archaic view will survive for a long time, but that doesn't change actuality does it?

You are both right and wrong. You are right regarding those who are "involved in politics", but you are wrong regarding the vast majority, who are merely followers, lining up behind their respective messiahs, ready to do as they are told and be taken care of. They are the ones who don't comment, just follow, do as they are told, vote as they are told, and believe that their party will work miracles. Then, once their party gets into power and fails, they blame the other party for "interfering".

We have me the enemy, and he is us.

Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.

Children are at the mercy of the "because I said so" attitude of adults. They are denied control of themselves and their lives. The frustration of being unable to control one's world permeates into adulthood. We are forced to accept caricatures of reality and cartoon solutions to real problems. The lack of control is so frightening that we have to craft these sorts of solutions to even function. We are offered mythologies and cultural identity in lieu of real answers. When we grow up we just exchange the juvenile version for an adult version, but the underlying fear and frustration is still there.

If God is God, does he even need to think?

Great question OAT. Why does a God need to think?

What is the purpose of thought, consciousness, and behaviour?

Conscious cognition is self-awareness, alertness to stimuli, ability to respond specifically to specific stimuli. and initiation of behaviour. Here is my view of consciousness and cognition.

1. Find Food.

2. Find a reproductive mate.

3. Evade dangerous predators.

Most Americans believe that God is eternal and omnipotent. If God is eternal, why does it need to feed to stay alive? Eternal means it stays alive no matter what. An Eternal God need not have reproductive organs and copulate with other Gods to make baby gods. The Cosmos would be crammed with a googolplex of eternal gods.

If God is omnipotent, he is all-powerful. That means he need not fear any predator. A predator capable of killing and eating God is God-plus.

God is needed by many as a cause of the universe, the creator, the trigger of the Big Bang. God could be a creative process of energy. Conscious alertness and intelligence may be unnecessary. Carbon exposed to heat and Oxygen can burst into fire without any conscious guidance. Perhaps the Universe expanded from a super dense singularity 14 billion years ago.

Why? We really do not know. Postulation of a theoretical conscious god seems unnecessary. Everything since the Big Bang can be explained by physics and the properties of energy. A Conscious regulation is not apparent.

Eternal God does not need to find food.

Eternal God does not need to find a spouse.

Omnipotent god need not fear predators (Theophages).

Are you truly so arrogant and self-centered that you believe that your "view" is the only possible way for "consciousness and cognition" to function? If you cannot imagine something, does that mean it cannot exist?

Kant claimed that a 4th spatial dimension was utterly impossible because he couldn't imagine how it would work.

No. All these can be handled by instinct. Behaviourism as a psychological model has been discredited since the 70s.

Of course God does not "think". But all our concepts of God are pathetically inadequate. We just have to use the words and ideas we have. It's like that 4th dimension: we can't imagine it because we have no sense organs capable of perceiving it. It may or may not be there. We will never know.
