I think mw has raised a very important issue for resolution. How many threads need to be started on the NY mosque "issue"?

Related questions: Where should they be started? Should we all start one? Does the topic need its own moderator?

At some point in time the -

1) mosque will be built at the present site
2) mosque will not be built at all
3) mosque will be built at a different site in NYC
4) mosque will be not be built in NYC
5) mosque will be built outside NYC

Only when (and not until then) one of those options is crystal clear should we shut down discussion of the 911 mosque.

This mosque already exists in NEW YORK CITY:

New York Mosque (Islamic Cultural Center) New York City.com : Arts & Attractions : Editorial Review

Opened in 1989 and often referred to as the '96th Street Mosque,' or "New York Mosque," the Islamic Cultural Center of New York was the first mosque in New York City built from the ground up. Designed by the prestigious architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill and financed mainly by the Kuwaiti government, the mosque fills an entire city block in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

One of the more striking buildings in New York, the mosque contains the two primary elements that traditionally compose an Islamic house of worship: a mosque and a minaret. The geometric form of the mosque, based on a recurring theme of square units, follows Islamic law, which prohibits the depiction of natural forms since they are made in the image of God. The result is a striking blend of ancient Islamic tradition and contemporary design and materials. The Mosque is well worth a visit.

The mosque regularly draws over 4,000 faithful for Friday prayers.

there must be a joke in here somewhere.

How many mods does it take to merge a thread ?

Now one can merge on a ramp...and a few can merge on a highway, but more than one mod tringy to merge a thraed is tough. Now thread a needle, or needle a member, or member what a thread was about, but number member mod threads merging on posts where polls pick infinite numbers and members post moderate requests take more somewhere.

But did you hear the imam was a sufi?

and the Nina and Pinta were captained by Muslims?

Why? What's it to you?

I read in the paper that Monterey Gourmet Foods is purchasing a new larger building, in Gilroy. They will invest nearly $10 million in improvements. "This is good economic news for Gilroy," says the mayor. It is not such good news for Salinas, where the old facilities will probably shed some jobs.

How many threads do we need to discuss this building construction?

Loving the poll results.... You can never have enough of these sort of threads. :)

Is it a coincidence? I had no idea there was a consensus on this issue. I just chose the last one. It wasn't a random choice. I just thought the last one was funny.

Then they don't need another one then. :) Greedy little muslims.

but we like threads about us, it makes us feel important and if you don't give us another "911 mosque" thread we'll bomb you :p

It should be one.

I can live in hope but it seems mosques are like burkas ... they need to be discussed 3 times simultaneously!!

I take it all back ... having just read Charlie Brooker's description of the planned mosque, in the Guardian, I think it's perhaps going a little far and should be stopped ... although the minarets sound appropriate for some of these threads lol

The planned "ultra-mosque" will be a staggering 5,600ft tall – more than five times higher than the tallest building on Earth – and will be capped with an immense dome of highly-polished solid gold, carefully positioned to bounce sunlight directly toward the pavement, where it will blind pedestrians and fry small dogs. The main structure will be delimited by 600 minarets, each shaped like an upraised middle finger, and housing a powerful amplifier: when synchronised, their combined sonic might will be capable of relaying the muezzin's call to prayer at such deafening volume, it will be clearly audible in the Afghan mountains, where thousands of terrorists are poised to celebrate by running around with scarves over their faces, firing AK-47s into the sky and yelling whatever the foreign word for "victory" is.

In CiF, the comments are as good as the article; as with Mr Brooker's.

Nice one.

I also thought it was funny :/ But I "dig it" also.

See I knew it! Quick to reach for the explosives!

I can live in hope but it seems mosques are like burkas...

They need to be banned?

they need to be discussed 3 times simultaneously!!
