This Could Explain a LOT!

Thanks for the link! I have been a fan of Shermer since I saw him on a PBS special called "A Question of God" or something like that. I think that as brain research moves forward we can put much of the superstition behind us and perhaps discover something even more amazing.

I don't think the religous her are gonna like this, but I feel that footage could go some way to explaining so called 'divine' experiences, and therefore all of religions roots....

There is an old story about Mullah Nasruddin that tells of the nefarious Nasruddin riding his mule up and down the streets frantically searching for his mule.
If those of religious bent grow within their own traditions they will see wisdom here, if not they will see heresy.
The "aliveness" that permeates all that is, reveals itself constantly and to this I pay close attention. Even an atheist provides a wonderful gift in that he stokes a fire under the religious to connect with and deepen their understanding.

If something shared between people were merely for a feeling, then perhaps it could be induced with EM waves, sort of like the media, movies, drugs, or alcohol. If inducing something into someone else's brain is a person's level of understanding of love, or faith, or honesty for example, then I suppose they don't really have a relationship with anyone to prove otherwise.

Why??

How do you think this will affect the religious?

I don't see how this differs between LSD or other hallucinegenic experiments.

Hey Earl!

What should you do if you meet the Buddha on the street?
Kill the buddha!
I grew up a farm boy. We rural folks wave at everybody, whether we know them or not.:p earl
That is interesting...

I think it has to do with traffic frequency...and speed. The lower the speed and the fewer cars the more the waves....seeing faces...when you have the time to see the face...notice the car...notice who is in it (not exactly who as you indicated, but a body) and you wave...

At 25 mph bumper to bumper....one doesn't wave to oncoming traffic....it is now a line of traffic and not an individual....

Same at 65 mph....with less traffic...it is a car, not a body behind a wheel.

But slow down to below 50 and have less than a car every minute....and spontaneous waving occurs...

Unless you see the Buddha...

Off topic I know, but when I was a lad 40+ years ago traveling the rural roads with my parents, folks in other cars got pleasant "how ya doing?" waves, strangers or not. Now in this age we have road hostility and a phrase never heard of then-"road rage." Could use a few more Buddhas behind the wheel.:) My how times have changed. earl

Yup, I grew up in a village called "Kriedersville" in PA and they do wave at everybody.
But back to the point, I think too much attention on phenomena could be a distraction in ones practice.

(waves at earl)

Astonishing. An organ built exclusively around the production of electrical signals is disrupted by electrical stimulus. Who would have thought it? :)
