From what I can gather, Islam is the fastest growing religion today, far outstripping Judaism and Christianity, in % of growth.

For sure, simple breeding can account for a large part of that, Muslims may be having larger families than the other two, as they fan out. However, I think I am right in saying it may even have the highest number of converts, and if that is true, then it is interesting.

If the number of Muslim converts can be measured as reasonably high, then it indicates that these converts are clearly seeing something in the religion of Islam that they are perhaps not seeing in alternative religions, esp the Christianity or Judaism.

Maybe Sally can chime in on this one, if she happens to see it....

Actually the status quo is constant (1.25 billion Muslims). This has been so for the past 10 years (ironically coinciding with the death of hundreds of thousands of muslims due to wars and in country executions by repressive governments.

What is also amazing is the number of converts from islam to christianity and other faiths... roughly the same. Seems the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, until one gets there...

It pays to read the small print...(batteries not included)

There are people who seem to change their religion as often as most of us would change our underwear - a curious breed so they are.

Let's say someone converts from Christianity to Islam, by choice. For years they might have been going around, preaching the word of Jesus as being the one 'true gospel', and that he was the son of god, the path to 'salvation'. Then, all of a sudden, they dispense with all of that, and are now embracing Allah and Mohammed as the one absolute truth, as it were.

On one hand, I suppose you might admire them being flexible enough to go follow something else, if they consider it closer to the truth than that which they were following. On the other hand, you have to wonder about the person who was declaring one thing to be truth, and has now down a u turn, declaring a different set of teachings to be the one truth (sic). That might show that they are simply seeking something, and they are moving from one religion to another in a desperate attempt to find it. Some even go on with their convertions, perhaps subscribing to other religions as well.

its not true,

i converted to islam
i left islam
i met Jesus and became Christian

in that order

So?

What does that prove, other than the fact that you replaced one set of religous ideas with another set of religous ideas, both ideas originating from the same region of the world.

This action has not brought you any closer to 'truth', in reality, all you have done is swap religions because, for one reason or another, that which you swapped to better fitted you, as a person.

The important thing is that they find something meaningful. Islam was always just an alternative to Christianity, introduced for people who found Christianity unpalatable. NiceCupOfTea here converted to Christianity as an alternative to Islam, just like Jesus was an alternative to Shammai in the first century.

If you understand the stories of Hosea and the Prodigal Son, you'd know that the Abrahamic God gives people options.

It's annoying when people claim they have the "One True Religion" or that you have to accept someone as your "saviour" or else........

It can be annoying when atheists keep trying to give us reasons to not believe in God, when Muslims claim their Quran has "corrections" for the Tanakh and New Testament or when a Catholic like Thomas tells people they've got it all wrong.

This is why I believe in a God of options and alternatives. It isn't necessarily to satisfy people's "selfish desires." I think that is a cynical attitude. What we see as "good," "right" or "important" is shaped by our life experiences. What we see as "truth" is a product of our experiences and journey through life. "Truth" isn't really as truthful as we would like it to be, or at least not truthful in the way people commonly believe. It is truthful not in the sense of being universal, but in the sense of being suitable to the individual.

The Abrahamic God offers us options and alternatives to suit our own notion of "truth." Many people mistake it for a universal truth, but it is really a personal truth.

It is like receiving mana from heaven. Mana doesn't last forever, so you must consume it while it lasts. When God reveals your personal truth, you must chase after it. Don't let it get away. There is no time like the present.

well its proves nothing, but its my testimony.

As for religion I am not at all interested frankly.

But a relationship with God well that brilliant :)

so enlightenment, are you anti all religions? or are you anti God? Or just the more popular religions?

If a person has a personal relationship with God, why are you trying to make it sound like a waste of time? If you really do think that way, Im sorry, and I PRAY, that you do find a relationship with Him.
One thing I have found is that its easier for me to let go of some anger issues I have, when I put them in His hands.

it works for me.

I have answered this before, for you. I am not 'anti' any religion, and I apply that in equal measure.

I would afford the claims of the bible as much credibility as I would the books of Ron L Hubbard - not very much.

I am perhaps fairer in my skepticism than many religionists actually, given that I do not claim one to be better than the other.

As for emotions, well, what works for me is taking responsibility for them, rather than hand them over to someone else (yes, even handing them to your god would be handing responsibility over).

Did you have a relationship with god, when you were a Muslim, or have you only enjoyed one since you (apparently) accepted Jesus as the 'saviour', etc?

I should have written personal relationship, and yes that's since I was born again.

Christianity is not a mere religion, Christianity is a love relationship with God :)

Well in that case I am glad I know you on the internet only and not in person. As I can safely say that you need to change your underwear more often.

(oh, you mean you weren't saying that litterally? You mean you were using an extreme hyperbole to make a point? Isn't that exactly what you reject in religious texts???)

It seems to me our buddy has issues with people who are happy with their beliefs and in order to feel better about himself he chooses to belittle others.

As to the number of Muslims....it appears from various conversations there are more Muslims attributed to being Muslim than there actually are. As there are a number of countries where everyone is Muslim by law, there is no choice.

Just as in the USSR those folks were not all atheists....just an oppressive gov't said that was the only choice.

But not exclusively Christianity, right?

I mean, one does not need be a Christian to have this 'personal relationship' that you speak of, am I right?

Entirely wrong, however, fill your boots - if it helps for you to perpetuate a lie about me, in order to make you feel better about yourself, then go right ahead.

its because of Jesus and what he did for you on the cross, because of Jesus you can enter into a relationship with God the Father the creator and sustainer of everything, and thats really good news.

thats what I believe
