There are fairies at the bottom of my garden!

But no one can know for a FACT they have it, not even you!:D:D:D

In that sentence you make a truth claim,

'That no one can know for a FACT they have it' is true you claim

By doing so, you kick away the stool on which you stand

Your claim is thus paradoxical and as such is no more than nonsense

It is a FACT that no evidence exists to PROVE, with no shadow of a doubt, that a deity or afterlife exists. If you know something I don't then show me irrefutable proof! Put up, or shut up!:D

Well said!

But be careful, m'dear ... there is no evidence exists to PROVE, with no shadow of a doubt, that a deity or afterlife doesn't exist! ;)

If you know something I don't then show me irrefutable proof! Put up, or shut up!:D
Don't say that! You're hoist on your own petard if you do! I mean, can you prove there isn't? :D

I can't prove that there isn't. But when people state something as FACT rather than belief, it is for them to prove it.

No, that is not a fact. If you can prove it is, put up or shut up

Fine. But I don't recall anyone telling you that anything is absolute FACT.

I mean, if you want to boil it down to the simplest possible reality... here is a fact: no one knows anything to be absolute fact other than their own existence. But that is something everyone knows and has known for a long, long time. Nothing new.

But our own existence might be a myth too!:D

Such solipsism doesn't really fly; no private language, no language no sophisticated conceptual thought, no sophisticated conceptual thought no solipsism

Of course our existence is myth....or becomes myth.

We when telling our story add our hyperbole, like myth, include our allegory or parable, as myth...our current reality becomes our mythology when we share our experiences with others for their edification

You are a giggle, you keep talking about yourself!:D:D:D

Of course our existence is myth....
Well our existence is 'real' in the scientific and philosophical definition of the term, although the more nuanced allows for an ontology greater than me. No-one questions reality, that would be pointless. Just whether that reality is dependent or not.

Of course, how we conceive of ourselves and others might well be in mythological terms, if the fancy takes us, but to say everyone spins their lives into a myth is ... a myth! (Or a very poor opinion of one's neighbour!)

I've met many honest and humble people, who ask for nothing and see no reason to invent a personal mythology.

And yet, their very humility can take on mythic proportions in the eyes of the beholder!

I'm all for hyperbole, when it makes a real point.

Yes...our perception of our reality becomes our mythology...we get in trouble by taking our memories literally.
Again ... some might ... doesn't mean everyone does.

I believe science has shown our memories to be highly unreliable. Especially as the years go by. Other experiences, pictures, news reports change our memories, and what is left...we believe as factual.

It happens most dramatically with folks with traumatic memories, be it sickness, childbirth, physical, mental, sexual abuse, incarceration, etc.... but twin studies and field studies show that eyewitness accounts are actually useless, it is only our juries that believe them, both the prosecution and defense know they are not reliable, but find them valuable to win their cases...

That is what I remember anyway.
