Sinead O'Connor announced she has embraced Islam, releasing this statement:

Shuhada is the plural form of shaheed meaning "witness" and is often translated as "martyr"

Good for her! She never seemed happy with the Church, or they with her.

For entirely selfish reasons, I hope she doesn't reach the same conclusions regarding music performance as Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam did.

It doesn't matter what religion it is, I think it's obvious her mind is a bit gone. I feel both sad and happy for her. If she's converted to orthodox Sunnism, she'll probably get sick of it quick though, lol.
 
Insha-Allah, Ash-Shafee (The Healer) she will be blessed with finding a cure for whatever psychological issues she has. I would not be surprised if she becomes a Sufi.

Still, I wonder what people like her actually read and study before deciding to convert/revert, because for me it required pushing through many levels of disinfo and really trying to familiarize myself with the essence of each school of thought - finding the Sunni school to be....umm....a mental mouse trap. This also included going between different ahadith collections and trying to work out what the actual spiritual legacy for each school was. For a westerner, it's no easy task either. Choosing Imam Ali over Abu Bakr makes far more sense to me.

Anyway, if she's genuine at least, then that's a good start.
 
Speaking a month later, she seems to have aspects of Orientalism in her world view, can't say I take a liking to that. But do what thou wilt, I don't care, she's a grown woman. Whatever.

No, (and) it's a good place to start (gives you a place to rationally think things out and weigh things in context) but if you're going to pick a 'sect', the philosophical one that promotes intelligence is obviously the far better one spiritually, mentally and emotionally. (this is aside from the issues with Sunni obfuscations and rampant literalism)
 
That's what I was trying to ask initially, why choose a sect at all? Not why did you choose Shia over Sunni. :)

Personally I think most if not all of the problems of Islam come from extra-Kuranic sources.
