How Can We Attract New Members...?

My sad face :(reply because we lost RJM--do you know why he left? Is he ok? Is he coming back? I don't know if you can say.
I think he has pressing personal commitments..
He might return at some point.. that's all I want to say. :)

I certainly notice his absence. His and Cino's. 🫤
@Cino had some health problems, and I think the wars might
also be a factor.. there is increasing division in Europe at the moment,
as you might have noticed. 😐

Also notice juantoo isn't around...
There was some friction due to political differences, but he happily logged in when
Trump got elected .. so I guess he will pop in from time to time. :)

Well, hopefully we see them all. They certainly made the forum a lively place.
I hope Cino is continuing to get well.
I don't remember where in Europe he was located. I hope he's not directly affected by the wars but I don't know his locale at all.

We all have our limits (tolerance levels, tike constraints, priorities other issues) that keep us from participating....many get fed up with me!

I seem to be forum monogamous...once I find one I like I stick with it.

First was thinkarete, a ohilosoohy forum, which switched to zaadz and then got bought out by Deepak Chopras daughter I believe...it rolled into a new age more woo and crystal site.

I then found this and glommed on.

But I think you have hit the crux of the biscuit, it is not how do we find new, but how do we keep the old?

Now if we could only get a permit to wifi into whatever afterlife you believe in would that not be a hoot?

I mean we have lost many wonderful members to this thing called death...it's an analog thing affecting our digital forum.

Now if anyone knows how to overcome death start another thread lol....but if anyone would like to log back in in whatever afterlife you believe in, if anyone can use prayer to send a signal to the amazing folks we have had pass thru and ask them to open the app.

If there is a rock and roll heaven they must have a helluvah band! I'd like you to imagine the twilight zone, the interfaith forum of samsara, the elysium, the paradise network, a heavenly connection, the nirvana forum of enlightenment....can you imagine the discussions realizing they are all right! Or alright! Or all wrong!

Now imagine them signing up under a new moniker or their old...and telling us of the experience....

Accomplish that, we be viral in a minute....and I would probably need to find another forum to connect...lol

i/o eye appreciate you as you are.

Really? Is that why you have so many likes?
..or have you "fixed the clock" .. ;)

I feel sure there will be new members who claim to be clairvoyant .. no app needed. :D

On July 26, 2024, @iBrian posted the following:

"I just wanted to say a big thank you to @RJM for doing his utmost best to keep Interfaith running these past few years. I know it hasn't been easy for him, and I know even the best can struggle at any time running an active forum in general, let alone one based around such profound and often conflicting viewpoints which can make IO a particular challenge to deal with. I haven't been here to see how things have developed, but I'm very grateful that RJM made every effort to keep IO running and online.

Also, I'm sad to say that RJM has now resigned as community administrator to allow me to take over fully, which is not something I'd actually wanted - I had hoped to support him and simply help tone things down around here so that there was more of an even keel. However, I know for a long time he's repeatedly expressed a desire to step back from the stress of running IO and keeping it online, and I guess that now I'm here more fully he's finally taken that opportunity.

I don't know whether he plans to keep visiting and posting, or whether he's just going to take a long breather - goodness knows he deserves some relax time - but I just wanted to make a public show of thanks for him being here to prevent the ship from sinking, allowing for IO to continue as a global community interfaith website. :)"

Probably dump the home page. Start with Forums.
First post in about a fortnight. Missed you.
Yes, I knew that I am logged in but did not know the trick that I could still post.
Hope the forum is able to solve its problems soon.

Sorry to read that Cino is unwell, I was wondering what had happened to him. Does anybody remember Ella S? In her short time here she made some amazing contributions IMO. I miss both of them.
Yes, I heard Cino was unwell about a year ago. I think he returned for a time earlier this year, but then haven't seen him.

I think I've seen the name Ella S when perusing old threads. However I am almost sure she is from before my time.

I hope they both return. I'd love to see Cino again and I would love to meet Ella S.

I have been thinking long and hard on the subject of gaining and retaining members, and I have not had any bright ideas. My main conclusion is that it is not really a good time for spiritual/religious forums and may never be.

In the last few years, three Pagan forums that I joined have gone. OBOD has a forum that is quite busy, but the posts are mostly of a happy holiday and look at my pretty picture variety. BDO has a forum that sadly is barely alive.

The main forum that I have seen, is pretty successful, to a degree, but its religious content is mostly Abrahamic and around half of its posts are either U.S. politics or just trivia. Worse, IMO is the fact that it seems to have become a gathering point for attention seekers and people who appear to need help. Some say, that such people need a forum too, but we have to ask about what happens when potential members look in, see a madhouse and get out quick.

I think that all we can do is look after what we have. Hopefully, a happy, healthy forum will do its own recruiting then. In the past, there have been failures of moderating in terms of both rudeness and bias. I know for a fact that I am not the only member to believe this.

I doubt that this will ever be a big forum, and that may not be a bad thing. It can however, be a very good forum, and we should all play a part in that.

I used to really enjoy the OBOD forums; sorry to hear they've gone down in quality content.

It seems forums in general are struggling, as folks gravitate to things like Reddit and FB.

Whar are OBOD and BDO?

I had never really looked into forums as much as I should have. With the demise of Beliefnet I looked into them a little and then fell away from it, and I even found this site but for reasons I cannot explain I didn't locate the forum!

I doubt that this will ever be a big forum, and that may not be a bad thing. It can however, be a very good forum, and we should all play a part in that.
I think being a small forum has its perks. I think what might make sense is to just try to attract a trickle of interested, serious people so that we retain our vitality and our little culture here. Trying to become large is overrated.

I have to admit, I'm not really worried about attracting new members at the moment - people always find us and drift in, and then either stay or drift away. What's more important to me is the quality, not the quantity of the discussions we have here. It's also worth remembering there is always a silent minority reading these forums as well. :)

Do you know any Korean martial arts champions that could be enticed?

No, but I know a guy that pretends to be one.
Hey we've got the same number of points! That's two things we've got in common. I feel quite giddy. (Can't remember what the other thing was)
