Christian Nationalism

I always find it interesting when unbelievers find content from Christians to point fingers at other Christians. I'm not into pointing fingers at fellow Christians. I also don't believe in using scripture as a club against other Christians which is why I did not watch this video after I saw that is what he was doing. I didn't have even know what Christian Nationalism was before you posted that video. I might be a Christian Nationalist since I have voted strictly on the issue of abortion since I was 18 years old. Anyone that claims to be pro life gets my vote. The other issues I could care less about because I believe that the mass murder of innocent lives is what God will judge my country on.

Ohh and I also vote for pro Israel nominees because I believe God when He says that He will bless those that bless you and will curse those that curse you.

I watched the video. I agree with the man in premise, but his biblical knowledge is definitely lacking.

I am definitely against Christian nationalism. I cringe at the idea of any church running our government. However, if an individual truly did follow Jesus's principles, I would probably vote for him/her. The idea of an honest and loving candidate? That would be awesome. One can dream.

But Jesus was all about establishing a kingdom on earth. So to say that Jesus wasn't about controlling the nations? That is absurd. He may have arrived as a peaceful servant (according to scriptures), but His ultimate goal is to establish a kingdom over all nations. That is basically Christian nationalism on steroids. I wonder if this guy ever read a Bible.

Maybe we should leave that to Jesus (when he returns).
The Roman authority did not find that he was a "troublemaker", according to the Bible..

Nations need to be controlled, in the sense that the law has to be upheld. Extreme views aren't
helpful, in this regard .. they cause division.

This is not historically accurate..
There are conflicting accounts in the Gospels, and Josephus and Philo, for example.
..so you are making assumptions about what is "historically accurate" .

Why else would they kill some of the apostles?
The political setup in Jerusalem at the time, and the Roman governance is complex.

Herod was born around 72 BCE in Idumea, south of Judea. He was the second son of Antipater the Idumaean, a high-ranking official under ethnarch Hyrcanus II, and Cypros, a Nabatean Arab princess from Petra, in present-day Jordan. Herod's father was by descent an Edomite; his ancestors had converted to Judaism. Herod was raised as a Jew.
...
Herod rose to power largely through his father's good relations with the Roman general and dictator Julius Caesar, who entrusted Antipater with the public affairs of Judea.

Herod_the_Great

It was neither Israel or Palestine in the time of Jesus .. it was known as Judea.
Re. John the Baptist, for example, according to the New Testament, John was sentenced to death and subsequently beheaded by Herod Antipas around AD 30 after John rebuked him for divorcing his wife Phasaelis and then unlawfully wedding Herodias, the wife of his brother Herod Philip I.

I'm talking about Paul and James. Feel free to Google how the Romans felt about Jesus and His followers there is plenty of historical evidence.

We had Jimmy... the only one that fit that bill in my lifetime.
So yeah I bit the bullet and watched the entire video. I can honestly say that this man needs to reread the New Testament and try again.
He is going to seminary....in theory there will be discussions...of course it was in Bible college that Bart Ermhan turned atheist.

I am a follower of the teachings purported to be of Jesus... just don't buy that an all powerful all loving creator would can be both and allow this world to exist...therefor don't believe that exists.

The dude has gone viral....he will be infecting others near you...it will be interesting how it all plays out.

@wil the bible also teaches of false teachers arising in the last days. The Jesus of my bible loves children and issued a harsh warning about the mistreatment of them. This man poo poohed abortion as an issue in our country. The Jesus of my bible also spoke at length of those that will perish and the command to spread the good news of salvation. You can't teach that Jesus was all love rainbows and not also teach eternal condemnation to those that reject Him. The only political system that is ultimately going to work is when He is sitting on the throne as Lord and King. Until that time we are all just muddling through unsuccessfully.

I posted this in the book.of faces... some responses...

....In my experience, it is the "John 3:16" folks who adopt the Christian Nationalist theology. They see the earth as the battleground for the cosmic war between good and evil and by God, they are fighting on the side of good because they have accepted Jesus. Problem is that that is the only verse in the Gospel that they read.

....Yes this is so true. Jesus was emphasising our love and true humanity to one another, not a system of rules and power and associated personal wealth which supposedly made us feel secure. It seems to me Jesus would not recognise the religion which claims to be following his teachings. Nationalism, wealth and power were contrary to his way of living.

That it does...and we sure don't have to look far to find them today! Although you know that I think thinking this is the end of days or it will happen in our lifetime is interesting as that is what the apostles and every one of the hundred plus generations since thought as well...the signs...the signs!

Gonna be hard to make me fearful. I believe if there is a Jesus on the throne next to a God (that is one? whatever)...then they will call down to the gate and let me in.

Not for what I don't believe, or what I do believe, but for my works...I think mediocre is acceptable. If I am wrong... I recommend gloating a little...not much...but a little is deserved!
