Brace yourself. James Cameron, the man who brought you 'The Titanic' is back with another blockbuster. This time, the ship he's sinking is Christianity.

In a new documentary, Producer Cameron and his director, Simcha Jacobovici, make the starting claim that Jesus wasn't resurrected --the cornerstone of Christian faith-- and that his burial cave was discovered near Jerusalem. And, get this, Jesus sired a son with Mary Magdelene.

No, it's not a re-make of "The Da Vinci Codes'. It's supposed to be true...

I dont understand why the most loving man to ever walk among men is so hated by the world. I dont get why we love darkness more than the light, which is Christ. I groan with all of Creation and the blessed souls who have been born again, in anticipation for the return of the King.

Come quickly Lord!

And? Just playing Devils Advocate for a moment-From 2000 years ago we have evidence of the existance of a lot of historical characters yet almost nothing, outside of the Gospels, that even mentions Jesus. Funnily enougth not even an official document relating to his trial, crucifixion or apparant 'rouble rousing', preaching, temper in the temple- Not even a foot note in Pilates diary-a character who's existance is 'provable' historically. You've gotta start wondering why at some point. (ps-Josepus, highly questionable that a Jew would call someone the 'Son Of God' and 'messiah', don't ya think???????)

Let's go back 27 years, when Israeli construction workers were gouging out the foundations for a new building in the industrial park in the Talpiyot, a Jerusalem suburb. of Jerusalem. The earth gave way, revealing a 2,000 year old cave with 10 stone caskets. Archologists were summoned, and the stone caskets carted away for examination. It took 20 years for experts to decipher the names on the ten tombs. They were: Jesua, son of Joseph, Mary, Mary, Mathew, Jofa and Judah, son of Jesua.
Look forward to hearing, learning more however my BS alarm is going off. Let's see a short while ago we had the James brother of Jesus casket hoax, now we've got 10 convenient caskets from 27 years ago, a film maker having the time and energy to create a documentary but the first words we hear of it are as they are as they are marketing the film??

It has been a hot blog topic??

Sure it has, for the past week. Something seems fishy about the whole thing...

Kindest Regards, pfw!

As I recall, Josephus did not mention Jesus in the context of Messiah. Rather, he mentions Jesus as an unusual man who did some rather remarkable things. And that's about it, not much else.

(*Note to self, need to look up the passage in Josephus again...*)

Seems I read the writings of Josephus in regards to Jesus have been deemed forgery. That the style and information does not coincide with other Josephus writings...

Of course Wil....everything about Jesus is a fake or a myth or a story.
Quit using your mind it is going to drag you down.

Amen brother.
Remember they know not what they do.
They can not help themselves the follow the leader of the world.

I do not believe nor say that everything about Jesus is a fake, a myth or a story, but from what I see so far, I believe this 'documentary' to be. As awful as it seems you are likely to agree with me once again my brother.

I am not an archeologist or one that determines what forgeries are, but the scholars that study such things have determined that the lines attributed to Josephus regarding Jesus were added centuries after Josephus passed.

Yep that once again depends on which scholar you pay attention to it......just like there are scholars that back up evolution and ones that refute it. There are also scholars who say Josephus writtings were not faked.:)

Can one really call one a scholar if he posits that the world is less the 10,000 years old?

Hello, I'm quite certain Jesus was explicit on this issue..."Ask and you shall receive, Seek and you shall find, Knock, and the door shall be opened..."

I think that includes using one's mind...and has nothing with being dragged anywhere (including down)...

The latest I've read on the subject (which was a while ago) is that there was an original quote about Jesus that had been 'adapted' at a later date- I'm no linguist and the argument backing this claim frankly baffled me but it revolved around two styles, syntax etc.

Any how I was only playing, as I said in my original post, 'Devils Advocate' and pointing to the distinct lack of reliable historical evidence for Christ. (Which, even the most devout, has to be a bit of a problem.):(

It was not intended to be taken quite the way it has- I was hoping to spark a debate not an argument...:)

If we aren't meant to use our minds why did God give us one along with the capacity for reason, logic, learning etc? Or is it like our appendix-just a waste of space?

Any way want to point out something that might scupper the claim it's Christ? One casket is marked 'Jesua son of Joseph'. Wasn't the Jesus of the Gospels always refered to as 'Jesus son of Mary' due to (Virgin birth or not) the unusual circumstances around his conception/birth?

...In 1996, when the BBC aired a short documentary on the same subject, archaeologists challenged the claims. Amos Kloner, the first archaeologist to examine the site, said the idea fails to hold up by archaeological standards but makes for profitable television.

"They just want to get money for it," Kloner said....

..."How possible is it?" Pfann said. "On a scale of one through 10 -- 10 being completely possible -- it's probably a one, maybe a one and a half."...

...Although the documentary makers claim to have found the tomb of Jesus, the British Broadcasting Corporation beat them to the punch by 11 years...

Kindest Regards, all!

I think it is important to keep in mind, as with any scholarly studies, that we are not the "experts" here. I doubt there is one among us fluent enough in first century Hebrew to decipher what is written, on the bone boxes or in Josephus. The only one among us who may be fluent enough in general Latin is Thomas, which may or may not provide insight given an original copy of Josephus' work could be produced (assuming it was written in Latin). Bananabrain might be fluent enough in first century Hebrew, but (with all due respect) what motivation has he to prove anything to benefit Christianity? (*To see the gist of what I am getting at, look up BB's absolutely excellent thread "Tilting at Windmills" about linguistic redaction*)

It is unfair of me to single these two of our fellows out, I do so only to make a point...none of us here is truly qualified to prove or disprove the assertions of these so-called "experts." The sad part is, experts can be found on either side of the fence, which only serves to further polarize the common folk like us trying to make sense of this stuff. Don't let it rattle your cage, it's not worth losing any sleep over.

I do think it is imperitive to consider the motivations behind these promoters...is there a decided bias against Christianity, are they deliberately hoping to attempt to undermine the faith? If so, then their motives will bite them, it will return to them to haunt them, I have faith. Now, if their motive is sincere, a quest for discovery of the truth behind the myth, that too will manifest in due course of time as people become better prepared to accept.

Faith may move mountains, but faith in lies and deceit only move fearful imaginings. It is only faith in truth as the truth is that stands steadfast to weather any storm that arises. Therefore, be not troubled with fearful imaginings.

It's just a stupid movie.
