The "OF" Corral

When I was younger, I thought the idea of elders teaching me something was ludicrous. As I have gotten older the thought of passing something along occurred to me. But, since I make a huge mess of every endeavor I engage, I question my own worth in doing something like that.

But, the best part of my stupidity is that I never feel that logic is any impediment to going forward.

To younger folks? What would I say? No new lessons, just a basic old one. Follow your heart, follow your dreams. Don't give up on something better, higher. Don't surrender for second best.

The things I have seen people achieve are remarkable.

My friend Virginia knew these lawyer guys. These guys were high powered, very rich lawyers. They would work about 4 months out of the year. And then, with that money, that just went globe trotting. A lot of hiking and mountain climbing. Just figured out how to live the dream.

Kinda of like Patrick Swazye in Point Break, but without the bank robbery or Gary Busey.

I was lucky...as a high school kid I talked to the old janitor...very little formal education...scraped getting by his whole life...still sweeping floors cleaning up after kids near 70...a black man with a bunch of great grandkids and a lot of experience and logic.

He was the start of listening to old people...i learned the value.

Then there were to old dudes where I livved. One hateful, one loving, one blatant racist out of ignorance, one ww2 who was captured and a pow of Japan...yet amazing compassion.

Everyone is a mentor...some for what to do...others for what not to do.

Then f for a decade I had two bosses in their 60s...and I their right hand man...tons more learning.

And I still get it ...now from 90 year olds

That is wonderful...truly wonderful. Thanks for sharing.

Yep, you reach a certain age and you get coralled. Not intentionally you understand, it's just that the passing of the "55" barrier automatically relegates you to new labels and names. Old timer, Gramps, Pops, Granny, Geezer, Maw, and the ever present and ever popular "Old Fart" seem to be the most popular and most fitting to the genre'.
The over 70's group is .....'brilliant!'

You can get away with so much!
A few months ago, one morning, I realised that I had forgotten a surgery appointment and would arrive one hour late if I legged it. When I arrived the receptionist checked her screens and told me that my appointment had been at 10am and not 11am. I looked as shocked as possible, held hands to face, and moaned 'Oh no! Not again!'..... the receptionist looked at a colleague and they both made 'Ah....poor dear' faces and then moved heaven and earth to fit me in. And don't try to tell me that only old idiots forget appointments! :D

Quite often I'm asked to download 'apps', go on line, set passwords, do complicated stuff and generally stress out. When I ask the speaker what an 'app' is and mumble questions like ,'it's that IT stuff again, is it?' then the caller will usually just sort out everything for me.

Being old and daft can be wonderful.

Lol...young at heart... I remember that...i recall playing sports and now I see an athlete hit the ground and bounce back up I cringe. I see kids playing kickball and remember when... I see young kids flirting and young love and remember when...
I see some little tike squating and amazed at a sea shell and remember when...
I have to figure out stair rise and run cuts for a deck and remember when.... When I could!

Today my super power is the same as my first 6 months...the ability to fall asleep anywhere

Guinness recalls non-alcoholic stout

"The drinks group Diageo is recalling all of its newly launched non-alcoholic stout because of “microbiological contamination”, only two weeks after it was launched .

It warned that cans of the new Guinness 0.0 drink, which took four years to develop, may be “unsafe to consume” and advised people who had purchased the alcohol-free beer to dispose of it or return it to where it was bought …"

No, there isn't. :)
That was back in 2020. Since relaunch they cannot keep up with demand and are increasing capacity thus:
"Diageo is making a £40.5m investment to expand capacity at its packaging facilities in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Runcorn, England, which is set to support the growth of Guinness Draught and Guinness Zero."

Ah well -- there's Irish wine, lol ;)
Joking aside, if you like the leaded version, the general consensus is that the 0.0 is pretty indistinguishable from it. Just think, you could have one with your breakfast!

Why would you want an unleaded Guinness stout for breakfast when you can have a cold brew nitro coffee?
