This is not the thread you're looking for...move along...

Thank you as always, Phyllis! You have always been such a blessing around here.

It is very sad what was done to the ancient Iraqi palace complex. In the past year I've seen a show on PBS, twice, covering that same complex, as a researcher speculated that was the grounds of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, truly one of the 7 ancient wonders of the World. Documented was all of the stealth and secrecy she needed to document the little she was able to, before ISIS overran the place and access was denied completely.

Sad, the ignorance writ large under the thin veil of fanaticism masquerading as zealotry. Islam once was the fountain of tolerance, education and learning; now it seems to be the wellspring of hatred, intolerance and wilfull, wanton ignorance.

I just read that those a$$tards destroyed an ancient Catholic monastery, as well as taken several hostages (perhaps murdering some): http://news.yahoo.com/destroys-ancient-catholic-monastery-syria-111130878.html

I apologize for bringing such depressing news into this thread. :( Personally, I think/feel those involved in IS are o_O

Thank you for bringing this to light. I think it speaks volumes why this information was not shared on the various national network news channels, and the gummint they serve.

Religion of love, eh? I don't see it.

Islam is still peace and love....radicals use it like the kkk and abortion clinic bombers use the bible... Those radicals kill more Muslims than the restuvus

Another -off :kitty:gram! https://www.yahoo.com/news/islamic-state-militants-blow-ancient-arch-triumph-palmyra-225035318.html

Just thought I'd warn everyone prior to them clicking on the link (personally, I'd like for each and every one of their respective mosques to be destroyed sans anyone who is considered innocent people inside (those who are "in charge" and/or involved in the destruction of these places are fair game imho.) I apologize for my rant here Muslimwoman and any other moderate Muslims who might be watching this thread.

I've been awaiting this. It breaks my heart. A monument that was there long before there even was an Islamic faith, which had no relation to Islam or opposition to Islam in any way has been destroyed by ignorant racist savages. This type of behavior is how SO MUCH of our history as a species has been lost down through the ages. Deliberately through the actions of the few which has cost the majority of us to be ignorant of our own past.

That sort of ancient history in your own backyard is one thing I dislike about living in the Midwestern US. I loved going to Rome and being able to see a thousand years worth of construction along the side of the road, or in someone's backyard. 3400-year-old fort in the basement won't be happening for me anytime soon. Although my new place does have old, leaky pipes.
