baptism

Head for the river.

Seriously, me not seeing the need for the sanctified, ratified, ordained intermediary I can think of nothing more appropriate than someone with the desire to go out in nature and create their own ceremony and connect with all in such a personal way.

well I was baptized a few months ago and it was one of my concerns that I was joining a particular local church which I was not sure if it was the right thing for me, after some discussion my baptism went a head I was baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ rather than a particular local church, but I still attend the same church and I am happy to be part of it.

Praise God.

are you thinking of being baptized ?

Yeah still chewing it over... :) But I see with most it is more you making an affiliation to a group/denomination/church and so on... but it should be showing that you're ready to live by the laws of god and follow in the footsteps of christ. A personal one on one covenant :D

I think as a Christian it is important to be part of a community of believers so that you help, support and love each other. so affiliating a a particular group is not necessarily a bad thing, but if that makes you uncomfortable then fair enough.

And I think most churches will agree that Baptism should be baptism into the Church of Jesus Christ rather than a specific local church, maybe you should talk to some local churches and see if they are willing to baptize you on that Basis.

alex, i think that if you're meant to be baptized, God will make the circumstances all fall into place. don't force it. it will happen all on its own. i think it would be more special that way. just my thoughts.

Baptism is the "outward sign of an inward grace" its supposed to be proclaiming publically that you are dead to your sins hence the submersion and the lifting out of the water is being born in Christ. Its wonderful when done within your church because the love and support you receive from your church family is awesome... some churches have retreats at lakes periodically... you could probably phone up some local churches and see if they are setting one up soon.

I think if he is feeling the need for it that the Lord is putting it on his mind and heart. You never know.. this might be leading him somewhere God wants him to be.

Good post Leo, I agree.

Alex, it's great that you wish to be baptized. I hope you will find the appropiate person to perform this for you. It is an awesome experience of being identified with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection, raised to new life as you follow God. Please read everything you know in scripture about baptism. I've listed a few passages:

Romans 6:1-5
I Cor. 10:1-4
I Peter 3:21
Colossians 2:9-14

really, i know exactly how he feels because i have been wanting to get baptized for the longest time. i just can't find it in myself to go to a local church and get it done by a group of people that wouldn't accept me because of the way i view God. in all actuality i would rather get baptized by someone here on IO than a local church because at least you guys are open minded.

anyhow, i am of the mind that if i don't get baptized by water then i know that God Himself will cleanse me with fire. everyone is different. besides, its not about what i want, its about what He wants. take for instance the etheopian in acts. right place and right time. wasn't Yehoshua also being led by the Spirit towards John the Baptist? both these cases weren't forced at all. just happened to be at the right time right place it seems.

I dont think you need to explain to people your views on God to get baptized. I think how you view God is between you and Him and if you are listening to His voice and obeying Him you will do what He wants you to do eventually fight or no fight. :)

Namaste Leo,

Exactly what I meant, can you imagine making your own moment, in your own time, communing with nature and making it your own experience...the connection..it feels incredible thinking about it.

Jesus and John, cousins right? And he said I baptize with water the one that follows will baptize with the holy spirit...

Sit back and let the breath flow over brother...

I think whats key here is communication, go and talk to some local churches about it, you might be surprised.

Anyway good luck with your baptism, I was baptized in July it was awesome a great experience.

Praise God :)

what I really mean to say though is... why can you not baptise yourself, say, in the sea, or a local river? if the whole immersion thing is important...

baptism in the holy spirit, now that's worth questing for... but getting ducked in some minty water by a fool? I can do that...

It is simply more than just a "fool" dunking me in water lol... To me that is... :) Some of Jesus' last words... Matthew 28:19.... He says to go and teach AND baptise them... Jesus himself was baptised... Who better to follow.... The act of baptism represents quite a bit....
