What music are you listening to?

My birthday was yesterday. I raided the iTunes music store. Tom Waits, jazz from Glenn Miller to Norah Jones, Billy Cobham because he rocks my socks, and a massive selection of funk.

We want the funk
Give up the funk

Roadrunner United I Don't Wanna Be (A Superhero) Lyrics

They came from the sky
And they came from the sea
They came from the inside of a television screen
Babies of b*stards
Breeding as one
The fate of Earth is doomed
I quit! I'm done!

Some kind of darkness come creep over me
On what legal meat does our Caesar do feed?
So we could never be this free no!

I don't want to be a superhero
Never really cared about society
I don't want to be a superhero
I don't care so don't call me

They came from the sea
And they came from the sky
Captain America is going to die
Babies of b*stards
Breeding for fun
The fate of Earth is doomed
Get your gun, I'm done

Some kind of darkness come creep over me
On what legal meat does our Caesar do feed?
So we could never be this free no!

I don't want to be a superhero
Never really cared about society
I don't want to be a superhero
I believe in a conspiracy

Some kind of darkness come creep over me
On what legal meat does our Caesar do feed?
So we could never be this free no!

I don't want to be a superhero
Never really cared about society
I don’t want to be a superhero
I don’t care so don't call me

(see comment after track 2). 8th;Chilren, Robert Miles. 9th;Could It Be Magic, Barry Manilow (so I like Barry Manilow-I'm not apologising). 10th;Burn, The Cure(Crow sound track album)...

Peter Gabriel is great, Flow. His album "Us" is incredible. Also a song off of the City of Angels soundtrack, "I Grieve," is especially beautiful.

Speaking of beautiful, I'm currently gathering the catalog of Tori Amos into my collection. Back in the '90s in my teenage years, she was kind of just there, you know an eccentric presence on my friends' stereos and on the radio. And now I am suddenly amazed by her and appreciating her genius. Maybe it's the bruised Christian thing that resonates with me. She's a powerful woman, a spellcaster for sure.

Speaking of spellcasters, I too appreciate Stevie Nicks. My exposure to Fleetwood Mac is rather limited, but I do have a copy of their greatest hits disc. Three weeks ago it was getting some rather heavy airtime around my house.

I'm really drawn to women singer-songwriters right now. Dar Williams is another one. Her album Beauty of the Rain often opens up my day. Beautiful stuff. Loreena McKennitt also, as well as the ubiquitous Ani DiFranco. Back in August, my fiance and I went to see her in Spokane. Incredible, fantastic show as always. Empowering. She announced that she is pregnant. I suppose by now the baby should be do! Watch out, world--watch out and put a smile on your face.

:)

Emmylou Harris and Bonnie Raitt. Still great, but in their prime, when Linda Ronstadt was dominating the charts, they were superbo numero uno. They are still terriffic and will still blow your socks off with their talents.

flow....
