Why is Christianity loosing the cultural war ?

Soleil, I said before you are the reason that Christianity is loosing the cultural war.

I'm willing to amend that if it will help. Folks with your attitude are the reason Christianity is loosing the cultural war.

Now you've started the thread, you've been posting away, I just want it to be clear that I feel it is this intolerance if maintained as majority thinknig that will cause it whither into the realm of an archaic belief.

Thankfully it ain't so. The my way or the highway Christianity is on its way out as folks are bringing themselves more to the WWJD and love your neighbor understanding.

Actually Wil I would have to disagree.

The bible believing, stand your ground Christians are not going anywhere until Jesus decides no matter how much the Burger King crowd hopes we do.

I never eat at Burger King.

Do they serve veggie burgers?

Can they promise me they won't flip them with the same spatula they use to flip the meaty ones?

I'll bet they dooo.

Yuck-o!

Namaste Brother,

Good to know your lurking and that I can still pull you out of the woodpile occasionally.

While you may think 'bible believing Christians' somehow seperates you and I, in my mind as you are aware it doesn't. Some believe the sun rises, that the lord caused it to move acros

s the sky, others that the earth turns and it only appears to move across the sky based on our earth perspective. We believe the same book, we just come from different perspectives.

So while you wait for Jesus to tell you his decision I'll continue to treat my fellow man and my enemy with love as he prescribed.

Now you'll have to explain the Burger King crowd reference as I have no clue as to what that means.

Again, so good to see you participate.

Good to know your lurking...

It is inconceivable to me that anybody would lurk, reading this drivel without actually participating in the conversation.

The very notion... lurkers... lurking... it gives me a heebie-jeebies.

I totally agree with you wil and a new report by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life titled "Faith in Flux" proves it: published in April of this year they found that roughly half of U.S. adults have changed religion at some point in their life. Further, the number of Americans who identify as unaffiliated with a particular religion -- now hovering around 16 percent -- has grown more rapidly than any other religious group in recent decades.

In recent years, the story of American religion has been hyped up in fire and brimstone thanks to our previous president (Bush), a self-proclaimed born-again Christian, and the massive evangelical movement that influenced him to enact policies that were consistent with religious perspective: the global gag rule, abstinence-only sex education, and marriage-promotion programs, just to name a few. But those days are over. These policies, to borrow some vocabulary from religious folks, have been an abomination -- imposing one narrow definition of morality on a broad and diverse group of people the world over. Talk about not walking humbly with your God.

The "Faith in Flux" report declares: "About half … became unaffiliated, at least in part, because they think of religious people as hypocritical, judgmental or insincere. Large numbers also say they became unaffiliated because they think that religious organizations focus too much on rules and not enough on spirituality, or that religious leaders are too focused on money and power rather than truth and spirituality."

To which I say Amen. For more on this report see: Pew Forum: Faith in Flux: Religious Conversion Statistics and Changes in Religious Affiliation in the U.S.: The Unaffiliated

So now little me is responsible for the decline of Christianity !!!

WOW

And to clarify again, it isn't just you....

But he is a very good example of the attitude that is turning off and turning away people. Instead of building bridges, he is widening voids. Instead of seeking to include, he is seeking to ostracize.

Hopefully this isn't a new revelation or have you forgot... and post #110...And to clarify again, it isn't just you....

Based on all the comments I got, I decided to rewrite my original post so I will not be we others the cause of Christianity loosing the cultural war.

Why is Christianity Winning the cultural war ?
The statistics show that in terms of cultural progress like adultery, pornography, divorce, abortions etc Christians are doing better than the rest of the society. Family breakdown is the # 1 symbol and corner stone of this progressive civilization of tolerance and love. So called Same sex "marriages" are now the new stage of this cultural and spiritual renaissance of acceptance for those that cannot stay single and to push back hetero-normity and traditonal family values of intolerance, bigotery and hate

Many progressive Christian leaders are ecstactic at these trends and much efforts are made to weaken traditional marriage and to reject life as sacred. When looking at the coming generation we can expect a further growth in these Christian faith and values.

What may be the causes behind these trends? Of course, our spirits are affected by constant tolerance from the secular and godless forces that are supporting our environment on a daily basis but I also think that Christianity has a clear indidualistic theology of salvation that can resist and overcome these non-stop pressures of traditional bigoted family values that surround us. A clear family salvation theology is totally unecessary.

In Christianity, salvation is an individual matter. We will go to heaven alone, not as a family. Tradional Marriage is a distraction to our time on earth and is not eternal. Our investment in loving our physical family and becoming one with our spouse is a waste of time.

In Christian theology, Jesus did not need to have physical father. He did not need to marry. He had other siblings that thought he was great and who tried to really help him being killed. The most important symbol in Christianity is a single man, crucified on a cross at Calvary. This is the image of the perfect Christian family coming out of the Christian interpretation of the scriptures.

The Apostle Paul recommends Christians not to marry gay or straight if they can. For over 1000 years priests in the Catholic church have lived a celibate life and are not allowed to marry. Quite often the image projected by Christian theology is that to be closer to God, a believer should become a praying monk and live a celibate life.

In the cultural war against intolerance, gay activits use all these facts and images to prove rightfully so that Jesus did not say that homosexuality is wrong. There is not a Jesus family to reject their claim.

The first traditional family in Genesis became a dysfunctional family. The parents had to hide in shame and were kicked out of the Garden. The elder son killed his younger brother, etc...etc.

Jesus loved children but did not want to have a family that would have been an example that all his followers could model. Sanctity is for single men and women who have rejected a family life model and followed the path of Jesus' sacrifice in order to be closer to God.

As a whole, Christianity is projecting and teaching a clear hopeful theology of individual sainthood on earth and in heaven and if you cant, gay or straight marriage will do. The ideal is not represented by the traditional family.

I think this is a major breakthrough and a huge advantage in winning the cultural war

I am curious of what your thoughts are on this issue

1. Odds are the percentage of Gay folks back in Jesus time is similar to today.
2. Marriage was not always a governmental thing with benefits...once two folks moved in together they were married.
3. since 1980 divorce rates have trended down
4. since 1980 teen birth rates have trended down.
5. if the first family was dysfunctional....that would be 100% and we've done quite a bit better since then.

however I see no major breakthru...no major war...the sky is not falling...but mountains are being made out of molehills.

I should change my name from soleil10 to scape goat.....

Sorry, Soleil, but this world isn't getting any bigger. We have to find a way to live with the diversity it has to offer. Especially the diversity that involves the sexual behavior of consenting adults. I think they've earned the right to live as they please.

Even if we could agree that there are trends in the direction of dysfunction - which is highly doubtful - it is very unclear whether a 'Christian victory' in a 'culture war" would be any kind of solution. The whole idea of having the government deny people of their constitutional rights is absurd. Yet that is essentially what anti-gay activists seem to want.

I believe that the only real victory is the spiritualization of the human sphere through the influx of the Holy Spirit. That's a divine influence and very different from people trying to force their agenda on others with propaganda or government imposed social divisions.

Netti, could you explain what do you mean and how it would pratically transpire in the society ?
