Well, you are missing the point as to what that 400 million does.
It circulates...

Of course it does.

It would also circulate if it healed people...

Or fed people...

Or housed people.

Yes, our world should be different.
Imagine....
But right now it is what it is.
It is up to us to change it.

No its not it isn't upto me to donate or mentor or anything, it is upto those with the 400 million to do something other than make movies. Oh and take away their guns too!

Can't wait to see it. Now true I could give my eight dollars to a homeless guy....

Speaking of which this whole thing made me contemplate, didn't I hear the new twilight movie New Moon now holds the record for first night ticket sales?

So we are in a recession, 10% unemployment, 15% of homes have been forclosed on, lost 60% on our 401ks....but ticket sales are breaking records, the industry is making hundred million dollar films, netflix is still gaining subscribers, cable and satellite TV aren't hurting.....

400.... That really.... Is like.... Nothing in the grand freaking scale lol..

Lets look at a couple small prices for tools of death ;D

Cost of a single Tomahawk cruise Missile: $900,000
Cost of a single F-22 Raptor: $135 million
Cost of a single AC-130U Gunship: $190 million
Cost of a single F-117A Nighthawk: $122 Million
Cost of a single B-2 Bomber: $2.2 Billion
Cost of a single Javelin Missile: $80,000

Just a few price tags..... At least that 400 has gone to something of a positive energy a creative energy... It "made" something.... And that 400 doesn't just go to one person... It is spread out amongst staffs and actors and animators and whatever.... Sure that money could of been used for good... But the entire money your country wastes on military... and also its BLACK projects.... ****... You could feed the WORLD on that son :/ Instead... It's used to kill or kill better, faster, grand-er!

I guess that is life though... While we accept a system that is lived with "money" nothing is ever gonna get better :/

--edit--

Just found this.

For the 2010 fiscal year, the president's base budget of the Department of Defense rose to $533.8 billion. Adding spending on "overseas contingency operations" brings the sum to $663.8 billion

If we had the black projects budget to add on top of that.... Sheesh....

I love how this all ties into Avatar. From the previews the whole thing was about money and resources...eliminating the natives to get to some element...

Very much a cowboys and Indians type of movie with lots woven in.
Very good CG work.
Have watched half on low res.
This is one I would pay to go see.

I like the fact that they are pushing the envelope with the new film making tech in this one as then it will be possible to realize some of the great sci-fi books I grew up reading in video format.
There is so much good material to make into movies, they can mine it for decades and just scratch the surface.

Sure, they can mine it; but they won't or they would have been doing so by now ;)

The reason why so much of the really great science fiction out there hasn't been turned into movies by now is that Hollywood banks on the 15-25 year old male demographic. If the action is low and it actually tries to make you think, they don't want to see it. Imagine trying to market Rendezvous with Rama, or Ringworld, to that demographic. If there isn't enough stuff blowing up or people dying in gruesome and imaginative ways, Hollywood isn't going to make it.

Morgan Freeman has been trying to get together both the money and the resources to make Rama, but the response from Hollywood has been pretty much *crickets*. If he ever makes it, I'd say he'd do better going outside of the country and releasing it to everyone else. Let the US get it after the rest of the world has seen and loved it ;)

Well 17th, I found it! Poul Anderson wrote a short story in 1957 called "Call Me Joe" in addition, the protagonist was paralyzed from the waist down and could only move freely when in his avatar.

Oh no, is James Cameron guilty of plagiarism?
