If you had just one word to decribe/define God. What would you use. For me the answer is quite simple and striaght forward. But, I'd like to see what others have to say.

"Absolute Truth"

..................................................................................................
The first words of the Vedānta-sūtra are: janmādy asya yataḥ

"Janmādy asya yataḥ" is fully explained in Bhagavata-purana which is Vyāsadeva's own perfect Vedānta commentary.

If everything is emanating from the Absolute Truth, then what is the nature of the Absolute Truth?

The Absolute Truth must be consciousness. He is self-effulgent (sva-rāṭ).

We develop our consciousness and knowledge by receiving knowledge from others, but for Him it is said that He is self-effulgent. The whole summary of Vedic knowledge is the Vedānta-sūtra, and the Vedānta-sūtra is explained by the writer himself in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. We finally request those who are actually after Vedic knowledge to try to understand the explanation of all Vedic knowledge from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam and the Bhagavad-gītā.

DELUSION

It is the belief in something totally without evidence for its existence. The God Delusion is a cosmic being, who is invisible, inaudible, intangible, immeasurable, and has never been proven to have done anything.

It is a story made up by shamans and Bronze Age warlords to hold power over the people by use of fear. The fear is of a depiction of the most vicious terrifying, homicidal, hateful, vengeful, and yes, the most EVIL fictional being the human mind can invent.

Theism spawned religion.

Religion in general is evil. It sows fear and hatred of others. It is an excuse for a thousand wars or more. It is an excuse for sadists to torture men and women, burn witches and heretics, and cruelty to non-human animals.

The delusion of Theism and the organised religion that took advantage of it constitute the very worst plague in human history. Casualties are in the millions or billions.

You can't use a language defined by God to define God.

You can't use a language defined by God to define God.

WTF? How does that make sense? There is no evidence that God invented languge. Human's had speech (based on FOXP2 gene) as far back as 350 million years ago. Their societies at the time of leaving Africa likely were held together and suceeded because they had language. But humans did not invent JHWY until 4000 BCE, and the Christ God in 390's CE. Ahura Mazda, Dagda, Brahman, and Zeus were invented only by 2000 or 3000 BCE. Ice Age humans had invented a chubby fertility goddess before 30,000 BCE. Neanderthals had ritual burials with flowers and obvious reverence thousands of years before Homo sapiens invaded Europe.

Man created God and used human langue to define that god. God's vary because they are generated in human brains as explanations for mysteries around them. They gave their gods human personality feature (mostly of Savage Warlords.)

No offence intended but that statement seemed illogical.

As a Buddhist, I've spent a fair amount of time in meditation. And at times in meditation, there are moments when the thinking mind can become stilled and quieted and another mind is revealed.

This other mind is always present, but it's easily drowned out by the constant motion and noise of the thinking mind and our attachment to its narrative.

That other mind is awareness, wisdom and compassion, or as it is said in a of the Buddhist chant...

Vast is the robe of liberation, A formless field of benefaction...

Unlike theistic religions, this is not a God. It is simply what is revealed when we finally quite our mind and ego-driven thoughts. If there was one word alone that I could use to describe it, it would be Love.

Thank you, pghguy, for allowing me a moment to share with you and the others here at IO that word.

If this was a joke, it would be really funny, but unfortunately for you, it wasn't.

So the magnitude by which you missed the point is just... sad.

UNNECESSARY

God is a convenient tool to fill up the gaps in man's knowledge.
God is a crutch that man created so that he could avoid standing on his own two feet.
Unfortunately, God can also be a tool for man to control man.

The answer is ... Love. :)
I don't know Brian, but God as Love will seem far from reality if I were a Cambodian in S-21 Camp, a Jew in Auschwitz Concentration Camp, etc. or a chook in a modern farm being bred for human consumption, etc. Seeing the daily sufferings of so many in this world, God as Love is a concept that is far from reality for me.

I know, but you're referencing the actions of humans specifically here. I'd blame people for the folly of people. The buck stops with us.

A few days back I had this revelation and I know now you get it too. You've felt it, you understand. LOVE is the key, theist or not, that's it. But, while to say this alone seems cliche and simplistic, until undergoing the actual experience, until awakening, in means nothing.

Too true.

That's why religious experiences are so transformative.

Peace!
