The Soul

Not to get too technical, but emotions and "lower soul" are our initial an ititial unification of what is with what was via basic emotions. As our character rises (as we wash away our sins, as we become better individuals), these get close and closer to the pure creativity, joy, love, kindness of the D!vine (a "higher soul").
Higher and lower. Radar, you know it very well, why not dispose the baggage?

Really? I hate it, it in turn implies that whatever I say is irrelevant which undermines the very foundation of any discussion, which is what this place is built upon.

Personally I think it says much more about the person making the statement than it says about you. People tend toward self-enhancement as a usual practice and often believe they need to project an ideal picture of themselves, one that usually masks an underlying insecurity. I have seen this kind of behavior many times, by many different people here in the forum and it is always quite tedious.

Blasted, you have seen though my mask to my underlying insecurity? Time to make a new account!

Pretty good, elumin8... point to soul or self. Empirically it does not work, that is no obstensive definition can be provided. The issue becomes one of a reasoned approach, a metaphysical approach.

There definitely is no certainty hereabouts. The best argument I have ever seen is the last chapter of Process and Reality. That is, of course, a verbal or philosophical argument. I experientially know that soul and self exist, it is part of my Religious Society of Friends non-empirical belief set. Soul/self is “something beyond”. Does it exist forever? I do not know. Is it a “thing in time”? No, but the experience is.
Harming the soul would be emotional abuse and someone doing that would be the one with a sick soul. This would mean the lights will have darkish spots mixed in with the soul essence pattern. Those spots are like a disease. Things like meanness towards an individual is an attack on someone elses soul. However it may have effects on the body but since the soul is sealed away it only effects the one attacking soul and is seen as affecting the victims body. Attacking someones intellect is like a spiritual assault. These are crimes to do that. Feeding another persons soul by having compassion, showing kindness ect is the healing thing to do specifically for ones own self.

Fine, that is your conception and probably valid and consistent for you. I see it a little different.

I agree completely

Well isnt spiritual development growth?

You skipped the point, why assume that I will agree with you when I have grown spiritually? Why not assume that you will one day see things my way after YOU have grown?

Agreeing with your views is not necessarily spiritual growth.

Well my views are definitely for my own personal spiritual growth. Everyone has something to contribute for collective spiritual growth. I hope you find your own personal path.

donnann -- what we are attempting to say (I believe) is that we do not see nor anthropomorphize the soul the way you do. Nor will we all see the same thing in the end of “spiritual growth”. That is just the nature of reality and the nature of individual entities.

When you call out any of the ten thousand names of g!d, the universe echoes back within you (or something very close by Roshi Ueshiba). “There are as many paths to God as there are souls on the Earth”—Rumi. “More are the names of God and infinite are the forms through which He may be approached. In whatever name and form you worship Him, through them you will realize Him”—Ramakrishna. “In my Father's house are many mansions”—John.

“G!d’s tent is all-enclusive and pitched atop a peak, so it looks different from each valley and every ridge, it has an infinite number of paths leading to it” –radarmark.

We just differ (as we must) on how we see the environment.

I agree about the paths. The human soul is really sealed away and cannot be touched and the ONLY way there is access to that is through good things. Its protected. However the soul of the body as I call it or emotional things effect one another. It takes all of us time to get there but we all eventually end up in the same place. The environment improves as we improve. Improvement happens slowly sometimes and sometimes it happens rather quickly.

What specifically do you not agree with? This thread is about the soul.

I remain unconvinced that soul exists. You have a lot of other beliefs about the universe that I also disagree with. That's ok. If they help you I'm happy for you.

What is it that you disagree with? Superficially please.
