THIS IS THE MOMENT - Donny Osmond

This is the moment,
This is the day,
This is the moment when I know I'm on my way.
Every endeavour,
I have made ever,
Is coming into play,
Is here and now today.
This is the moment,
This is the time,
When the momentum
And the moment are in rhyme!
Give me this moment
This momentous moment.
I'll gather up my past
And make some sense at last!
This is the moment.
When all I've done,
All of the dreaming,
Scheming and screaming,
Become one!
This is the day,
Just see it shine,
When all I've lived for,
Becomes mine!
This is the moment,
This is the hour,
When I can open up tomorrow
Like a flower,
And put my hand to,
Everything I planned to,
Fulfil my grand design,
See all my stars align!
This is the moment,
My final test!
Destiny beckoned,
I never reckoned,
Second best!
I won't look down,
I must not fall,
This is the moment,
The sweetest moment of them all! This is the moment,
Damn all the odds,
This day or never,
I'll sit forever with the gods!
When I look back,
I will recall,
Moment for moment,
This was the moment,
The greatest moment of them all!

[FONT=verdana, arial]We Belong Together (from Tristan and Isolde - the movie)
by Gavin DeGraw

We belong together,
Like the open seas and shores.
Wedded by the planet floors,
We've all been spoken for.
The hammer may strike,
Me dead on the ground,
A nail to my hand,
A cross on his crown.
We're done if, who we're undone,
Finished if who we are incomplete.
As one we are everything,
We are everything we need.
We belong together,
Like the open seas and shores.
Wedded by the planet floors,
We've all been spoken for.
What good is a life,
With no one to share,
The light of the moon,
The honor of a swear?
Will you try to live the way of which you speak?
Taste the milk of your mother earth's love?
Spread the word of consciousness you see?
We are everything we need.
We belong together,
Like the open seas and shores.
Wedded by the planet floors,
We've all been spoken for.
All this indecision.
All this independent strain.
Still we've got our hearts on save,
We've got our hearts on save. Someday when you're lonely,
Sometime after all this bliss,
Somewhere lost in emptiness,
I hope you find this gift.
I hope you find this gift.
I hope you find this gift.

Looks like "safe" rather than save but apparently those are the official lyrics. The music and the words would make that the perfect wedding song. These songs are really beautiful and quite personal to me.

Oh, dear. Now there's two topics I want to immerse myself in and i'm goin' away for two weeks (nursing my Mom).

I'll try to get back here a few times while I'm at her house.

Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you’re older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now
Cartwheels turn to car wheels thru the town
And they tell him,
Take your time, it won’t be long now
Till you drag your feet to slow the circles down
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true
There’ll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and plenty
Before the last revolving year is through
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return, we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

"The Circle Game" by Joni Mitchell

*********

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
’cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
’cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are

Chorus:
You can do what you want
The opportunity’s on
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know

Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
’cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are

And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
’cause there’s a million things to do
You know that there are

Chorus

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
’cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are
You know that there are

My House is the Red Earth

Joy Harjo & John L. Williams

My house is the red earth. It could be the center of the world. I've heard New York, Tokyo or Paris called the center of the world but I say it is magnificently humble. You could drive by and miss it. Radio waves can obscure it. Words cannot construct it for there are some sounds left to sacred wordless form. For instance, that fool crow picking through trash near the corral, understands the center of the world as greasy scraps of fat. Just ask him. He doesn't have to say that the earth has turned scarlet through fierce belief, after centuries of heartbreak and laughter.

If you look with the mind of the swirling earth near Shiprock, you become the land beautiful, and understand how three crows at the edge of the highway laughing, become three crows at the edge of the world laughing.

Don't bother the earth spirit who lives here. She is working on a story. It is the oldest story in the world and it is delicate, changing. If she sees you watching she'll invite you in for coffee, give you warm bread and you will be obligated to stay and listen. But this is no ordinary story. You will have to endure earthquakes, lightning, the deaths of all those you love, the most blinding beauty. It's a story so compelling you may never want to leave. This is how she traps you. See that stone finger over there? That is the only one who ever escaped.

Audioslave - Like a Stone

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on

Rush - Tom Sawyer

A modern day warrior
Mean, mean stride
Today's Tom Sawyer
Mean, mean pride

Though his mind is not for rent
Don't put him down as arrogant
His reserve, a quiet defense
Riding out the day's events
The river

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the mist, catch the myth
Catch the mystery, catch the drift

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his skies are wide

Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the space he invades
He gets by on you

No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent
But change is

What you say about his company
Is what you say about society
Catch the witness, catch the wit
Catch the spirit, catch the spit

The world is, the world is
Love and life are deep
Maybe as his eyes are wide

Exit the warrior
Today's Tom Sawyer
He gets high on you
And the energy you trade
He gets right on to the friction of the day

Veteran of the Psychic Wars – by Blue Oyster Cult

You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
Ive been living on the edge so long
Where the winds of limbo roar
And Im young enough to look at
And far too old to see
All the scars are on the inside
Im not sure if theres anything left of me

Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Its time we had some leave
Weve been living in the flames
Weve been eating up our brains
Oh, please dont let theses shakes go on

You ask me why Im weary, why I cant speak to you
You blame me for my silence
Say its time I changed and grew
But the wars still going on dear
And theres no end that I know
And I cant say if were ever...
I cant say if were ever gonna to be free

Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Its time we had some leave
Weve been living in the flames
Weve been eating out our brains
Oh, please dont let theses shakes go on

You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars
My energys spent at last
And my armor is destroyed
I have used up all my weapons and Im helpless and bereaved
Wounds are all Im made of
Did I hear you say that this is victory?

Dont let these shakes go on
Its time we had a break from it
Send me to the rear
Where the tides of madness swell
And been sliding into hell
Oh, please dont let shakes go on
Dont let these shakes go on
Dont let these shakes go on

Wind Up – by Jethro Tull

When I was young and they packed me off to school
And taught me how not to play the game,
I didnt mind if they groomed me for success,
Or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
With their God tucked underneath my arm --
Their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
And by way of firm reply,
He said -- Im not the kind you have to wind up on sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
Before Im through Id like to say my prayers --
I dont believe you:
You had the whole damn thing all wrong --
Hes not the kind you have to wind up on sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to sunday school
And have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
How do you dare tell me that Im my fathers son
When that was just an accident of birth.
Id rather look around me -- compose a better song
`cos thats the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
As you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
I dont believe you:
You had the whole damn thing all wrong --
Hes not the kind you have to wind up on sundays.

Queensryche: Revolution

For a price I'd do about anything
Except pull the trigger
For that I'd need a pretty good cause
Then I heard of Dr. X
The man with the cure
Just watch the television
Yeah, you'll see there's something going on

Got no love for politicians
Or that crazy scene in D.C.
It's just a power mad town
But the time is ripe for changes
There's a growing feeling
That taking a chance on a new kind of vision is due

I used to trust the media
To tell me the truth, tell us the truth
But now I've seen the payoffs
Everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Revolution calling you
(There's a) Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Gotta make a change
Gotta push, gotta push it on through

I'm tired of all this bull**it
They keep selling me on T.V.
About the communist plan
And all the shady preachers
Begging for my cash
Swiss bank accounts while giving their
Secretaries the slam

They're all in Penthouse now
Or Playboy magazine, million dollar stories to tell
I guess Warhol wasn't wrong
Fame fifteen minutes long
Everyone's using everybody, making the sale

I used to think
That only America's way, way was right
But now the holy dollar rules everybody's lives
Gotta make a million doesn't matter who dies

Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Revolution calling you
(There's a) Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Gotta make a change
Gotta push, gotta push it on through

I used to trust the media
To tell me the truth, tell us the truth
But now I've seen the payoffs
Everywhere I look
Who do you trust when everyone's a crook?

Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Revolution calling you
(There's a) Revolution calling
Revolution calling
Gotta make a change
Gotta push, gotta push it on through

Queensryche: Silent Lucidity

Hush now, don't you cry
Wipe away the teardrop from your eye
You're lying safe in bed
It was all a bad dream
Spinning in your head
Your mind tricked you to feel the pain
Of someone close to you leaving the game of life
So here it is, another chance
Wide awake you face the day
Your dream is over... or has it just begun?

There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize it and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind
Commanding in another world
Suddenly you hear and see
This magic new dimension

I- will be watching over you
I- am gonna help you see it through
I- will protect you in the night
I- am smiling next to you, in Silent Lucidity

If you open your mind for me
You won't rely on open eyes to see
The walls you built within
Come tumbling down, and a new world will begin
Living twice at once you learn
You're safe from the pain in the dream domain
A soul set free to fly
A round trip journey in your head
Master of illusion, can you realize
Your dream's alive, you can be the guide but...

I- will be watching over you
I- am gonna help to see it through
I- will protect you in the night
I- am smiling next to you....

China Cat Sunflower, by The Grateful Dead

Look for a while at the China Cat sunflower,
Proud walking jingle in the midnight sun.
Copperdome bodhi drip a silver kimono,
Like a crazy quilt stargown through a dream night wind.

Crazy cat peekin' through a lace bandanna,
Like a one-eyed Cheshire, like a diamond-eye jack.
A leaf of all colors plays a golden-string fiddle,
To a double-E waterfall over my back.

Comic book colors on a violin river Cryin' Leonardo,
Words from out a silk trombone.
I rang a silent bell, beneath a shower of pearls,
In the eagle-winged palace of the Queen Chinee.

Just thought you'd like to know.:)

The Answer's At The End Lyrics

by George Harrison

Scan not a friend with a microscopic glass
You know his faults, now let the foibles pass
Life is one long enigma, my friend
So read on, read on, the answer's at the end

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of

The speech of flowers excels the flowers of speech
But what's often in your heart, is the hardest thing to reach
And life is one long mystery, my friend
So live on, live on, the answer's at the end

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of

Oh, we think so little of the ones that we love, sometimes
Isn't it a pity how we hurt
The ones that we love the most of all
The ones we shouldn't hurt at all

You know my faults, now let the foibles pass
'Cause life is one long enigma, my friend
Live on, live on, the answer's at the end

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of

Don't be so hard on the ones that you love
It's the ones that you love we think so little of
Don't be so hard on the ones that you need
It's the ones that you need we think so little of

The ones that we love
We hurt the most of all, sometimes
And isn't it a pity how

We hurt the ones that we love (fade)

Acony Bell. by Gillian Welch. From the album 'Revival'

The fairest bloom
the mountain knows
is not an iris
nor a wild rose
but a little flower
of which I'll tell
known as the brave
acony bell.

Just a simple flower
so small and plain
with a pearly hue
and a little known name
but the yellow birds sing
when they see it bloom
for they know that spring
is coming soon.

Well it makes its home
in the rocks and rills
where the snows lie deep
on the windy hills
and it tells the world
'why should I wait?'
this ice and snow
is gonna melt away.

And so I'll sing that yellow bird's song
for the troubled times will soon be gone.

Navajo Rug
(Written by Ian Tyson and Tom Russell)
Well it's two eggs up on whiskey toast, home fries on the side,
Wash it down with some road house coffee, burns up your insides,
Just a canyon Colorado diner, and a waitress I did love,
I sat in the back ‘neath an old stuffed bear, and a worn out Navajo rug....

Now old Jack, the boss, he left at six,and it's Katie, bar the door,
She'd pull down that Navajo rug, and spread it ‘cross the floor--
Hey I saw lightnin’ cross the sacred mountains, saw woven turtle doves,
I was lying next to Katie on that old Navajo rug...

Aye, aye, aye, Katie, shades of red and blue,
Aye, aye, aye, Katie, whatever became of the Navajo rug and you,
Katie? Shades of red and blue…

Well I saw old Jack, about a year ago, said the place burned to the ground,
And all I saved was this old bear tooth, and Katie, she left town,
Ah, but Katie got her souvenir too; Jack spat a tobacco plug,
Well you should have seen her comin' through the smoke,
Draggin that Navajo rug...

Aye, aye, aye, Katie, shades of red and blue,
Aye, aye, aye, Katie, whatever became of the Navajo rug and you?

So everytime I cross the sacred mountains, and lightnin’ breaks above,
It always takes me back in time to my long lost Katie love,
But everything keeps on moving, and everyone’s on the go,
Hey, you don't find things that last anymore, like the weavings of a Navajo…

Poems, Prayers, and Promises, by John Denver

I've been lately thinking about my life's time, all the things I've done and how it's been.
And I can't help believing in my own mind, I know I'm gonna hate to see it end.
I've seen a lot of sunshine, slept out in the rain, spent a night or two all on my own.
I've known my lady's pleasures, had myself some friends, spent a time or two in my own home.

I have to say it now, it's been good life all in all, it's really fine to have a chance to hang around.
and lie there by the fire and watch the evening tire
while all my friends and my old lady sit and pass a pipe around.
And talk of poems and prayers and promises and things that we believe in.
How sweet it is to love someone, how right it is to care.
How long it's been since yesterday, what about tomorrow
and what about our dreams and all the memories we share?

Days they pass so quickly now, the nights are seldom long.
Time around me whispers when it's cold.
The changes somehow frightens me, still I have to smile. It turns me on to think of growing old.
For though my life's been good to me there's still so much to do.
So many things my mind has never known.
I'd like to raise a family, I'd like to sail away and dance across the mountains on the moon.

China Cat Sunflower—you will appreciate this one, I’ll bet. It is a song I wrote as a tribute to John Denver in 1985 (the lyrics and tune are copyrighted in my real name at the time, in a collection of songs for which I will not give the title here, for obvious reasons). It sounds a bit corny (like the man himself), and looking back, perhaps it seems a tad “worshipful” —I was young. I had arranged to get this song to him when he came to the area one time, but I never made it to the concert. Later, when he died, the owner of a café in Fort Worth where John had spent a lot of time over the years, said that he took this song to the family at the time of the funeral, and also presented it to another very well-known artist who considered singing it at a memorial tribute which never materialized! So close…

Song for J.D.

Friend of my spirit, singer of my soul;
The music of your old guitar playing low;
Oh, the times you’ve helped me see
What love can do for me
When sweet misery sought my company…

Lover of life, now, believer in the land—
Reborn in the mountains, alive in the sea and sand;
And I know that I will fly
Like the eagle in your sky—
And I know that I’ll never die…

And you sang to me of children,
Of reason and of rhyme,
About the friend we have in time—
Ah, you’ve been so kind!
You sang to me of aspen trees
In your snow-capped mountain home;
You helped me hold the hand of my child
When we were on our own.

Poet of hope and author of shining light,
Dancing with west winds that whisper cold at night;
The poem, the prayer, the promise—
Rainbow colors reflect from us
And all who know the song of spirit in flight…

And you played the strings of memories—
You wrote the highways in your songs;
You sang the heart of family—
At times you sang me strong.
If old Matthew was for real,
Then I know how he must feel,
Riding on the wings of your offerings—
With his Father, Heaven sings!

Painter of sunsets, spinner of cowboy dreams;
Somewhere in my mind live all of your prairie scenes—
And the mountains rise within me,
And in my heart, it’s windy
Out at sea;
Your music carries me….

Flying in a Blue Dream (1989)
I Believe

I've been out walking for hours.
I've got something on my mind.
How did we get here? Where are we going?
And why is life so hard?

I read the stories, see the photographs.
World's in a crazy space.
I've got to hold on to my dreams;
There's just no other place.
There's just no other place.

CHORUS:
I believe
We can change anything.
I believe
We can rise above this.
I believe
There's a reason for everything.
I believe
In my dream.

I've seen the shadows of the living.
Seen them turn and walk away.
And I keep searching for the right words
To send these thoughts away.

There's a picture I like to look at,
A picture of a beautiful face.
And I see something in her eyes,
Sends me to a better place.
Sends me to a better place.

CHORUS

I believe
We can change anything.
I believe
In my dream.

That's a lovely and fitting tribute to John Denver, In Love!

I was a little sheepish about admitting I liked John Denver when I was a kid in the seventies and early eighties. It wasn't exactly cool. The man sang from the heart, though, and his sincerity touch me. Plus, I'm just a big, stupid softy!

Chris

Yeah, I know what you mean, China Cat. It wasn't (and sometimes still isn't) considered too cool to be a J.D. fan--so it makes one wonder how the heck he sold all those records! (Lots of closet admirers out there, I guess:)). Well, one more from the man, and this one kind of goes along with Dondi's post, too. Some pretty prophetic words here....

Rhymes and Reasons

So you speak to me of sadness
And the coming of the winter;
The fear that is within you now
It seems to never end;
And the dreams that have escaped you
And the hope that you’ve forgotten,
You tell me that you need me now
You want to be my friend,

And you wonder where we’re going--
Where’s the rhyme, where’s the reason?
And as you cannot accept,
It is here we must begin
To seek the wisdom of the children
And the graceful way of flowers in the wind…

For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers;
Their laughter and their loveliness
Could clear a cloudy day;
Like the music of the mountains
And the colors of the rainbow,
They’re a promise of the future
And a blessing for today.

Though the cities start to crumble
And the towers fall around us,
The sun is slowly fading
And it’s colder than the sea,
It is written from the desert
To the mountains they shall lead us,
By the hand and by the heart
They will comfort you and me;
In their innocence and trusting
They will teach us to be free…

For the children and the flowers
Are my sisters and my brothers;
Their laughter and their loveliness
Could clear a cloudy day;
And the song that I am singing
Is a prayer to non believers:
Come and stand beside us
We can find a better way….

Deep Purple - Child in Time

Sweet child in time you'll see the line
The line that's drawn between the good and the bad
See the blind man shooting at the world
Bullets flying taking toll
If you've been bad, Lord I bet you have
And you've been hit by flying lead
You'd better close your eyes and bow your head
And wait for the ricochet

sighhhhh ....

A couple of favorites from Rush:

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.
The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced the're right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"These oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.

2112 - Discovery/Presentation

"I lie awake, staring out at the bleakness of Megadon. City and sky become one, merging into a single plane, a vast sea of unbroken grey. The Twin Moons, just two pale orbs as they trace their way across the steely sky. I used to think I had a pretty good life here, just plugging into my machine for the day, then watching Templevision or reading a Temple Paper in the evening.
My friend Jon always said it was nicer here than under the atmospheric domes of the Outer Planets. We have had peace since 2062, when the surviving planets were banded together under the Red Star of the Solar Federation. The less fortunate gave us a few new moons.
I believed what I was told, I thought it was a good life, I thought I was happy. Then I found something that changed it all..."

... "Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up, holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was beautiful"....

... "I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be from the music of the Temples! I can't wait to tell the priests about it! ..."

-- Anonymous, 2112

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It's got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?

See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain.

I can't wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see its light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night.

I know it's most unusual
To come before you so
But I've found an ancient miracle
I thought that you should know

Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Yes, we know it's nothing new
It's just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
The world is doing fine

Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan.

I can't believe you're saying
These things just can't be true
Our world could use this beauty
Just think what we might do.

Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There's something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.

Don't annoy us further
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average
What use have they for you?

Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn't fit the plan.
