Thank Allah, the new SA variant is not supposed to be dangerous. Two states in India are our real problems - Kerala and Maharashtra. Deaths as high as 400 something.
We over 65s have had our time. The world is for the young. Overpopulation is the main cause of climate change and pandemics. There is an increasing percentage of people over 65. There are too many of us old folks: in Japan and Germany around 20% of population are retired, increasing, and the burden on health and social services etc, is carried by the young and working age -- as is the main weight of covid restrictions.
It's unlikely they will continue to tolerate new lockdowns and restrictions every time some new variant crops up for the next decade or so, let alone allow new 'variant adapted' doses of untested chemicals to be forced on them in the form of vaccine boosters everytime some new variant pops its head out of the bushes.
One would think Austria and Germany would be the last countries to experiment with such social engineering.
Nature can't be fooled.

At least over here in Germany, the problem is unvaccinated people who then get ill and overload the hospitals.
Non-IC hospital units are being shut down, because operations are getting postponed, because of the high number of unvaccinated covid cases which bind all the resources.
Knee surgery? Hernia surgery? Wait till April, live on painkillers. In the meantime, physiotherapists and surgeons are on part-time schedule, non-IC-nurses are moved to IC duty (which they are not trained for), and quit in droves.
Here in Germany, the unvacced are ruining it for the rest of us. It is the result of decades of selling homeopathic sugar pills as real medical treatments and fostering distrust in "school medicine" - Germans love that darkly obscure intuitive sense of listening to their irrational ruminations instead of for once following simple reasonable policy.

Same issue here.... Overloaded over worked hospitals while the hoaxers and "they are elevating the numbers", "the are calling every death covid" crowd continue their chant.
It appears to me we will have drugs (after the fact) that will treat the bug without substantial hospitalizations or death. And every year we will see another covid shot, or 2 that we get like flu shots (for countries that do)

Yeah. Well I'm sick of having to sit with windows open on the bus, freezing in winter 2 hours a day on my way to work and back for panic over yet another covid variant -- and one which has not so far hospitalised one single person. It's a complete overreaction, and newspaper headlines like the one above: when everyone knows the percentage of covid deaths under 50 is minimal in the scheme of things. I'm beyond tired of it ...
That and the 'Oh, just take horse dewormer and another pill not meant for viruses, and you'll be just fine!'. All this while someone who was just in a major vehicle accident/shot/suffered a major stroke/etc. has to be turned away due to COVID anti-vaxxers. Ditto victims of a major natural disaster!

Thousands of medicines are used also for vetrinary purposes. People have a right to their own bodies. We've also got climate change people gluing themselves to motorways here, causing all sorts of personal tragedies to ordinary working people who just want to be allowed to get on with their lives. Remember Thalidomide? People have legitimate concerns. For many people with many years of life still ahead of them the danger doesn't justify the risk. They are entitled to make that judgement for themselves. No-one can guarantee the long term safety of these rushed vaccines. No wonder there's a bad reaction. It's a very disingenuous argument, imo

I believe pregnant women are the last for vaccines for that very reason...lol.
And if it were only prevent women refusing we wouldn't even have a pandemic right know!

There's a reason drug tests run for around 10 yrs before they are released. There is no way of knowing about long term side effects of any drugs without proper testing. I'm saying people who are unwilling to risk that are not all mindless anti-vaxx idiots. It's their right. Covid isn't generally dangerous for the majority of people. It's dangerous for old people. Unvaccinated under 50s are not clogging hospital beds. It's just not true to say they are.
No-one has the right to force anyone to vaccinate against a disease that is extremely unlikely to affect them in any serious way. Unless as an international travel requirement. Especially a new trial vaccine against each new variant as proposed. It's their choice.

But vaccination does not effectively prevent transmisson. Why should an under 50 working person have to be vaccinated to prevent transmission to an over 65 retired who has been vaccinated?

For international travel, depending on the destination requirements. Many countries require vaccination against yellow fever, etc.
That's coercion. It's imprisoning a healthy working age person in their house. If I don't want to get covid I don't have to go to a restaurant. I can stay at home. Why should I make you stay at home?

Not everyone who is under 50 perfectly healthy/unaffected by something that would make COVID-19 deadly.
Some examples: type I diabetes, leukemia and other cancers, cardiac conditions, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy... I could go on, but I won't.
Then there are pregnant women whose fetuses will suffer the unforeseen consequences of the virus, possibly losing the fetus. And there hasn't been another method found to "carry" the fetus to term, in spite of all of the science fiction stories with ideas!

My housemate got covid ... I took care of her before the vax. She quarantined in her room ... i fed her, cleaned dishes and house ... and stayed away from her

Yes I can pass it. EXATLY exactly the reason I stay away from the unvaxxed ... because I could give it to YOU!!! And I care more about your life than my own
... same reason I distanced and masked before ... same reason I got vaxxed ... same reason I stay away from unvaxed. I chose not to be responsible for anyone's death or hospitalization.
And this will continue till science solves this to the best of their abilities.
