Ok, so I'm time-tripping and cannot forget the days, not too long ago, when I was listening to this incessantly. Here, on Jools Holland and thus broadcast live, is that rarest of things, an appearance by the amazing Hope Sandoval, lead singer for Mazzy Star, singing "Fade Into You."

Not only am I thoroughly enjoying the “Hollywood sad core” (which is, by definition, the essentially false if nevertheless beguiling) sound of Lana Del Rey’s trip into post-adolescent American anxiety and abject boredom, reflected in her song ”video games,” but I am also, strangely enough, allowing myself to participate in vacuous celebrity culture by posting online comments about her curiously bloated and inflated lips. LOL.
By the way, Lana Del Rey must be absolutely fabulous to be featured on Jools Holland because the British, it seems to me from having lived with and among them, are often perceptive arbiters of what is worthwhile (if also disposable) in Yankee culture, and her sad eyes, heavy with enhanced lashes and mascara, and thick, pouty lips were recently seen in this clip of the same song.
In the memorable words of the incomparable Pink Floyd: “Come in here, dear [girl], have a cigar. You're gonna go far, you're gonna fly high, you're never gonna die, you're gonna make it if you try -they're gonna love you.”
